Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

This chapter is going to be driven almost entirely by the students. We have set it up as a project with labs and notes built in, but with students creating the plan for what they are going to study and how they are going to learn. We have been building toward this goal all year so it will hopefully be successful and fun.

This chapter deals with the ability to get usable energy in both plants and animals. The goals for this unit are:

1. Compare autotrophs and heterotrophs.

2. Describe the equation for photosynthesis.

3. Compare light dependent and light independent reactions.

4. Describe factors affecting photosynthesis.

5. Describe the equation for cell respiration.

6. Compare aerobic and anaerobic respiration.

7. Compare photosynthesis and cell respiration.

This unit will give students an idea of how we gain and use energy from plants and within our own bodies.
