Biochemistry

We have some review to do from Physical Science (or for some of you an introduction into Physical Science) before we get too deep into this unit. The major goals for this unit are:

1. Describe the properties of carbon.

2. Describe the properties and importance of water.

3. List the types of carbohydrates, identify their structures, and give real life uses.

4. List the types of fats, identify their structures, and give real life uses.

5. List the types of proteins, identify their structures, and give real life uses.

6. Describe the functions of enzymes and how their structure sets this up.

7. Describe the structure of nucleic acids.

We have included a quizlet to help with this that can be found at this link: https://quizlet.com/_2odemy

On our way to do this, we may need to go back to last year and go over the following goals:

1. Use the periodic table to identify protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom.

2. Identify how these are drawn in chemical diagrams.

3. Use this information to set up chemical bonds.

This is usually a tricky unit, but hopefully we will get everyone through the fight that is Biochemistry.
