Genetics is one of the most fun units we do in Biology. The ability to see how traits and features come about usually leaves students wanting to figure out how they got various hair colors, eye colors, and other traits. The major goals for this unit are:
1. Describe the work and influence of Gregor Mendel.
2. Create and analyze a punnett sqaure.
3. Compare homozygous and heterozygous traits.
4. Describe genotypes and phenotypes.
5. Analyze inheritance patterns such as incomplete dominance, codominance, multiple alleles, sex linked traits, and polygenic inheritance.
6. Create and analyze a family pedigree.
7. Describe modern issues and ethical thoughts in Genetics.
Hopefully your student will enjoy this unit as much as I do.
