HERE’S YOUR CHANCE TO SING!

Halifax Regional Arts (Music East) is offering a choral focused e-learning opportunity to all HRCE students in grades 7-12 who love to sing. Sessions will be offered after school hours (afternoon/evening) for 1 hour weekly per cohort using the Zoom platform. E-activities will include singing alone and with others in a variety of genres, music theory, musical theatre, song writing, music appreciation and team building. Cynthia Kennedy Davies loves to play the piano! A graduate of Acadia University, she was a music education specialist and accompanist with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education for 36 years. Although retired from her classroom duties, Cynthia is fortunate to have continued to work with young musicians as the accompanist for the Belle Voci Girls’ Honour Choir, Lake Voices Honour Choir and Shore Vocalz. She is especially delighted to be the accompanist for the Halifax Gay Men’s Chorus.


Melissa Hartery loves to sing and play guitar! She has been teaching with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education as a Music specialist for 22 years. She graduated with degrees in Vocal Performance & Music Education (Acadia University) and Technology Integration in Education (Mount Saint Vincent University). She has been a choral conductor with Halifax Regional Arts for the past 15 years, sharing her love of music with hundreds of students each year. June Rigden loves to play piano, sing, and dabble with technology, having created virtual Choir projects during Covid and has taught music composition using technology. She is an experienced music educator, holding degrees in Piano Performance, Music History, and Education from Mount Allison University. She brings richly varied experience as an elementary school music teacher, choral director, pianist, accompanist for numerous choirs and soloists, and a chorister and vocalist herself. Her love of music and children of all ages is foremost in her work.


Lisa Webb loves to sing, play flute and piano! She has been an elementary music specialist with HRCE for the past 23 years and currently teaches Music at Cavalier Drive Elementary and is a choir director with Halifax Regional Arts. Lisa studied voice and education at Mount Allison University where she performed in many musicals and operas. She has been a member of various community choirs and worked as section lead and assistant choir director for the Nova Scotia Choral Federation’s “Sing Summer!” program. Lisa looks forward to sharing her love of choral music with new and returning students!
