Halifax Regional Arts is pleased to offer the opportunity for students grades 8-12 to participate in a production of Hamlet this year. The rehearsals will be online (and the show will be online too!) on Wednesday Nights starting February 3rd and ending May 26th. Students will need to be able to participate in a camera-on rehearsal each Wednesday evening for 2-3 hours. Time TBA.

How to Audition

Auditions for will be conducted online on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Auditions will take place via virtual meet (you will be sent a link for the meeting through your GNSPES email account).

You will be auditioning for the director, Drew Douris-O'Hara, from Shakespeare by the Sea. Also in attendance for this virtual audition will be other staff members of the production team, including teachers from Halifax Regional Arts and possibly the assistant director.

For the audition, we'll need you to do the following:

1. Click on the link below to sign up for an audition time!

2. Complete the Media Consent Form for Halifax Regional Arts (you will be prompted to complete the Media Consent Form after you complete the audition sign up)

3. When you attend your virtual audition, please prepare an introduction including your name, grade, school and pronouns, AND a speech from Shakespeare, consisting of between 10-20 lines. This monologue does not have to be memorized, BUT, you should be very comfortable with reading it.

Please Note!

Rehearsals for this project will take place on WEDNESDAY EVENINGS starting on February 3 and wrapping up on May 26 (not including March Break). As we approach the final weeks of the project, other evening sessions may be added in consultation with the cast and crew.

It is anticipated that rehearsals will run for 1.5-3 hours each and will take place in the evening (some time between 5 and 9 pm with the exact timing to be determined later).

About the Director...

Born and raised here in Dartmouth, Drew is a professional actor, director, and theatre producer. Stage credits include Theatre Aquarius (Hamilton, ON), Carousel Players (St Catherines, ON) Driftwood Theatre, Humber River Shakespeare, Lost and Found, Upper Canada Repertory Company, Shakespeare BASH'd (Toronto, ON) LiveBait Theatre (Sackville, NB) OneLight Theatre, Neptune Theatre, Halifax Theatre for Young People, and over 30 productions for Shakespeare by the Sea (Halifax). Drew is a Resident Artist of Toronto’s critically acclaimed Shakespeare BASH’d, and is the Artistic Associate at Halifax's Shakespeare by the Sea, where this summer he'll co-star in The Importance of Being Earnest and direct A Midsummer Night's Dream.
