Tap Dance Fundamentals (Grades 5-8)

Time to make your own rhythms and dance to it!

Intro to Tap Part 2 (no need for previous experience or tap shoes) w/ Anthony MacPherson

Come explore the style, sounds and skills of American, Broadway Tap in this four week open-level tap fundamentals workshop. Each session will consist of high energy exercises that explore rhythm, math, technique, vocabulary and moves that allow you to make your own music -- with your feet! Each hour session will consist of a physical warm-up, technique time, a choreographed sequence, and improvisational games that any student can participate in from the comfort of your own home.

Tap Shoes are not required. If students would like information on how to access tap shoes (for rental from Neptune Theatre (Support your Local Theatre because they are amazing!) , contact dzinck@hrce.ca)

Anthony Macpherson

Bio:

Born and raised in Fall River, Nova Scotia, Canada, Anthony has been a Toronto based triple threat performer, creator and educator since 2010. After graduating from Sheridan College with an Advanced Diploma in Music Theatre Performance, Anthony has traveled all over North America courtesy of two national tours: Matilda and Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Wizard of Oz. He has also spent five summers at the Charlottetown Festival in Prince Edward Island, danced for Canada's most established opera companies, starred as Peter Pan in The Ross Petty Pantomime: Peter Pan in Wonderland and even returned to his alma mater in 2018 to join the dance faculty. Additionally, Anthony has delivered countless musical theatre intensives and dance classes at institutions such as George Brown College, Holland College, Neptune Theatre School, and International Musical – Taiwan. Anthony holds an Honours Bachelor of Musical Theatre with High Honours and has completed The Stratford Festival’s Teaching Artist Training Program.
