Year 2 shared what they learned about the unit of “How the World Works” about matter changes and money counting skills by conducting a “Sales Day” on Thursday, 2 May 2024, at the Primary Plaza.
The sales day was successfully done by inviting other year levels to buy the products that the Year 2 students had made, such as oobleck, tanghulu, lava lamps, pizza, and many more. They applied their communication skills by working and collaborating with their group, as well as their thinking and numeracy skills by counting their money and change accurately. We would like to thank all the Year levels who came to this event and the parents who supported this event.
As part of our learning of “How We Express Ourselves,” Year 2 was able to do some experiments. One of them was a musical glasses experiment, which was used for students to identify and create different sounds using various resources/materials. Students were introduced to the concept of 'pitch' as being how low or high a sound is and brainstormed a list of objects that make low and high-pitch noises. As little scientists, we followed the scientific method of doing the Musical Glasses experiment. We had to complete the scientific method sheet as we followed the steps given by our teacher, and we identified how the amount of water in the glass caused the pitch to be lower or higher. Finally, we created our own music using the musical glasses.
Here is the list of what we need to do the experiment:
1. Glasses
2. Jugs of water
3. Food colouring
4. Chopsticks
As part of our exploration for the “How We Express Ourselves unit,” Year 2 went on a field trip to Desa Ganara in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, East Jakarta. Students did the activity of handbuilt pottery. They learned the techniques of how to make pottery from clay. They followed the steps given by the instructor. The techniques are rolling, pinching, molding, and carving. They created a bowl or cup. Students were really engaged during the activity. They showed good audience listening skills as well as their creativity. Students also did some rotation activities provided by Year 2 Teachers. The activities were team building (paper challenge and sarong challenge) and coloring.
