"The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah
Inside, my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on"
(An excerpt from The Show Must Go On by Queen)
A show must go on! A mantra that all artists hold on to. The switch to online learning that both Performing and Visual Arts students and teachers had to adapt to this semester made us reflect deeper on this line.
We can proudly say that we accomplished works that we never thought could be done while socially distancing! We created and staged shows, shot and screened films, produced and exhibited artworks, produced and performed music all while ‘keeping the distance’.
Art teachers and students had to constantly evaluate the kind of approaches and resources we require to accomplish our artistic intention while working from home. This called for a lot of innovation and improvisation.
We nevertheless took up the challenge and explored, experimented, made mistakes, started all over again, got frustrated, bounced back, and finally produced works that fulfilled the artistic intentions we had. Thank you technology!
We witnessed great knowledge sharing where teachers and students taught and learned from each other how to make the best use of available technology to create, produce, and showcase art. What a journey!
We would like to share some of the works we created. We hope you will enjoy it. Stay safe and creative, the show must go on!
To wrap up this academic year, we would like to thank all of our PVA students from Year 7-12 for being open-minded, creative, and resilient in tackling the course in this new way.
Our special recognition also goes to our alumni, Amelia Ong and Elhaq for sharing their wealth of knowledge with vocal students.
