The Year 1 students have immersed themselves in the features of celebrations for our final unit of inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, with the central idea: Celebrations and traditions are expressions of shared beliefs and values.
Whilst we may not be in school, the inquiry continued with the help of choice boards. The inquiry began with the use of music, song and dance in celebrations from around the world. On Food Day, the students were able to immerse themselves in the inquiry of how food features in many celebrations and were even given the choice to get into the kitchen and cook, with help of course! Next, students inquired into language and how we not only use spoken language during celebrations but written language in the form of bunting and cards. This led perfectly into an exploration about how decorations are used, many of the students took the opportunity to show us how creative they are. During our inquiry into costumes and clothing, many of the students dressed up and explained the meaning of their clothing to their classmates. Our final celebration exploration was about the different activities that take place during various celebrations, and to mark the end of our celebration features inquiry, the students played online musical statues before completing their choice of activity from the choice board.
What a wonderful way to continue inquiring during these crazy times😃😃
