Dear GJS Families,
Congratulations to the GJS Class of 2020! On Wednesday, we held our first GJS Year 12 Online Graduation Ceremony (available for viewing HERE) to recognise and celebrate the 80 graduating Year 12 students who made up our unforgettable Class of 2020. Whether they are moving on to the next stages of their adult lives by attending college, university, taking a gap year, or seeking employment in the work world, please know we are so very proud of you all and wish you success in your future endeavours.
We also congratulate all of our Year 6 Students who celebrated via our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and who will be joining the Secondary School as newly minted Year 7 students next year. This marks a major milestone for these students. We take great comfort in knowing that they have been so well prepared for the challenges that await them by passionate and compassionate Teachers and Administrators. We are looking forward to their contributions to our school community, albeit now as Secondary Students. Our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony can be viewed HERE.
If you missed any other of our online celebrations, please check out the Events page of this Kontak for links to our videos. If you wish to see all recent and past GJS video publications please visit our Youtube Channel at youtube.com/globaljayaschoolofficial.
For all our students and their families that will be embarking on new adventures away from the GJS Community, we wish you all farewell. Both the Primary and Secondary Schools administration teams have established a Checkout Process where families are able to return GJS materials, while collecting any remaining personal belongings. For up-to-date information and timings, please refer to the communications posted in Managebac under the heading of Checkout Process.
It is also the time of year where we also say farewell to some of our GJS faculty and staff who will be departing our community at the conclusion of this year. Please see below our list of departing faculty and staff, a number of whom have served both the students and the wider GJS community for more two decades or more. Through their commitment, they have positively influenced the lives of generations of GJS students. We wish all our departing faculty and staff best wishes moving forward! (Please scroll through all 3 slides below)
Due to School closure, all GJS Events on and off School grounds have been postponed until further notice.
Due to School closure, all GJS Sports/Activities have been postponed until further notice.
Thank you to all departing families, students, faculty and staff for helping GJS retain our strong sense of family and community. We wish that you all take with you fond memories, lasting bonds and friendships, as well as great learning from your time as a member of our community. Please remember, 'Once a a member of the GJS family, Always a member of the the GJS Family!'
Speaking of family, we are so thankful for the love, support and positivity that our GJS parents have demonstrated through the year, but especially during the last term as we engaged with online learning. This collaborative and cooperative spirit was widely recognized and appreciated by GJS students and faculty alike. Please see our tribute video below that comes from those who benefitted the most, our students and faculty, to those who stretched themselves the most as facilitators of online learning at home, our parents. Please enjoy!
Last week we hosted a series of New and Prospective Parents meetings, for those who will be, or are thinking of, joining the GJS community for the 2020-2021 school year. We shared our online learning experiences, further shared our plans for completing the current academic year as well as some thoughts on what to expect as we look forward to the 2020-2021 school year. This allowed our new and prospective parents to assimilate much of the information our current community has been receiving as well as answer their questions and concerns as they move into a new school environment with their children. A representative group of GJS Leadership, Programme Coordinators and Faculty participated in the Google Hangouts Meet sessions. Our presentation can be viewed below. All current students and families will continue to have access to our educational and online learning resources over the June - July break. During the summer holiday, a well deserved break from screen time is not only advisable but is very much needed. Finding activities, hobbies and interests that are hands on, or that require one to be outside, are what we should be seeking over the coming summer months.
I will continue to be in touch weekly over the summer via our now regularly established Update to Parents, published each Friday. WhatsApp Year Level Groups and Managebac will be continue to be used as the medium for the sharing of information as necessary. As the coming weeks will bring information from our government and ministries, there will be details to share about the opening of school in August 2020.
Please continue to abide by the recommendations that will help reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. On behalf of the Leadership team, all the staff and faculty of GJS, please stay safe, stay healthy, stay well and and have a most pleasant summer holiday!
On a very personal note, it has been an absolute pleasure to serve Global Jaya School and its community this year as your Head of School. I feel very lucky, and very blessed, to have been chosen to join this tremendously caring and supportive community.
Warm regards,
Cory Carson
