Introduction
Imagine if in Global Jaya School, the year 5 are doing the PYP exhibition for the first time! Well it is happening in Global Jaya School (GS). The PYP exhibition is the final big project and a learning experience for the final year of primary education. This is the first time both year 5 & 6 are both having the PYPx in the same year. This is because both years are the final years of primary school. GJS has the IB curriculum, therefore, GJS has changed so that year 6 will be part of the MYP.
How We Started
We begin by selecting our passions--our interests and the activities we enjoy or wish to change. These passions represent who we are and highlight how we can contribute to making a difference in the world. Students may choose to work in a group, in pairs, or individually, depending on their preference.
Teachers review our passions and recommendations, then decide which students would collaborate best together. After groups are finalized, we will be assigned mentors who will guide us through our PYPX journey and provide advice on the next steps.
In our PYP Exhibition, the PYP Coordinator chose the central idea that matched the theme of the year. They guided us to understand why this idea was important and how it connected to real-world issues. The teachers also provided us with lines of inquiry that we could choose from so we could explore the topic in clear steps. These lines showed us what to research, like causes, effects, and possible solutions. With their support, our project became organized and easier to follow.
Starting Our Reports
After we were assigned our chosen mentors, lead teachers and groups we started researching the basic fundamentals of our chosen topic. We watched videos, read websites, interviewed experts and more. We were collaborating with our groups, classmates and stayed focused on our research. We then made our first draft with our ideas, information and links to the websites or videos we used.
Since there was so much information, we put that information in our first draft so we could make it more detailed and organized later. We were able to paraphrase what we learned to create the report. After we continue to edit and revise our first draft while getting teacher supervision we get a teacher confirmation to advise us on the second draft.
In the second draft we added more detail and made our reports more formal as the PYPX day was closing in. After we finished making the second draft with care then we had to add the small details to ensure that it was up to the rubric that we were given. In some reports students added pictures which were included with captions and in every paragraph there were in-text citations. We then added the work cited along with the title on the very top with the global jaya school logo.
Practice For The Opening Ceremony
While we were still making preparations for the PYP exhibition in art and music class, we were preparing and practicing props and performances for our opening ceremony of our PYP exhibition. In art class together as a class we made a long banner with each section a piece of each one of us. Each part of it had kind words that resemble good meanings. Those banners both 5A and 5B, were displayed near the theater when the opening ceremony was happening.
In music class we planned to practice three performances for the opening ceremony. The first is angklung with gamelan, both traditional Indonesian instruments. The second performance was with drums performance and for a finale was all of the students doing a singing performance on stage. We practiced many times to make sure our rhythm and voices were clear.
Final Preparations
While practicing on our opening performance and finishing our reports, we prepare our presentations and maybe things we need to display for our PYP exhibition booth. We think of activities we could make our booth more intriguing so more people can come, but we can make it too interesting as people might just come for our activity.
Everybody in year 5 did presentations for their booth. We all used all the information we gathered from our report and turned it into a presentation. We practiced speaking so we could present with confidence.
We worked together to set up our PYPX booths with care and creativity. We decorated the tables to match our topics and made posters to explain our ideas. We arranged our materials neatly so later visitors could see our work clearly. We practiced how to welcome our guests and prepare for any questions the visitors might ask.
The PYPX Day
When we performed our opening ceremony, we first performed the angklung and gamelan, then we had a drum performance. Then as a closing had the whole year 5 sing a modified version of Ampar Ampar Pisang. Afterwards, we went to present our Exhibition projects to teachers, parents and visitors.
We explain the topics they researched and the actions they took to make a difference. PYPX Day celebrates the hard work and growth of every student.
On PYPX Day, we presented our projects with excitement and confidence. We worked together to explain our research and showed the actions we took to make a difference. We used posters, slides, and models to make our presentations clear and creative. We spoke to teachers, parents, and friends about what we learned and why it was important.
We reflected on PYPX Day and felt proud of our teamwork and learning. We realized presenting made us more confident and responsible. We learned the value of listening and sharing ideas. At the end of the day, we celebrated our hard work and felt inspired to continue learning and making a positive difference in our community.
Conclusion
In conclusion, PYPX was a meaningful learning experience that showed how much we have grown as people and as students. We all tried our best to prepare, present and be confident. Sharing our learning experience with others has inspired us to keep learning and to try new things. The day ended with celebration, gratitude, and a sense of accomplishment that we will carry forward into our future learning journeys.
