From Garden to Table:
A Tasty Learning Adventure!
Our Kindergarten students recently went on a special learning journey from the garden to the table. It all started with a simple question: what makes something living or non-living? During our time in the school garden, the children found tomatoes growing on the plant. Some were still green, while others were turning orange and red. They carefully picked a few and brought them back to class, excited to see what would happen next.
Over the next few days, the children observed how the tomatoes slowly changed color and became softer. They touched, looked closely, and shared what they noticed. When the tomatoes were fully ripe, the students bravely tasted them and were surprised by the flavor. Then, together, we used the tomatoes to make a simple pasta dish. The children watched as the tomatoes were cooked and turned into sauce.
Through this experience, the students began to understand the difference between living and non-living things. They learned that tomatoes grow as living things on plants, but once they are picked and cooked, they become non-living food that we can eat. More importantly, they saw how we are connected to nature and how important it is to take care of it. This hands-on experience helped make learning meaningful, fun, and real for our young learners.
Let’s Count!
A Nature Adventure ✨
Learning to count turns into a big, happy adventure when we go outside! Our kindergarten friends explored the schoolyard with little cups, searching for treasures like crunchy leaves and tiny stones. “I got five!” one child cheered, while another carefully lined up stones and counted, “One… two… three… four… five… six… seven!”
Back in class, we sorted our treasures and counted them one by one, touching each as we said the numbers. Then we had fun practicing numbers from 0 to 10. Some of us wrote big, wiggly numbers, and some traced them in soft sand first. Math felt like play because we could see it, hold it, and share it with friends! We even wondered, “Who has more?” and “What if we put them together?” Want to try? Go on your own mini adventure at home! count leaves, toys, or snacks.
Math is everywhere, and it’s full of fun surprises!
