Writing for Wellbeing

Keeping a journal can help you make sense of your experiences, actions and emotions. It can also help you record your memories and shape dreams for the future. In order to journal, you can simply sit down at any time in the day and pen your thoughts and feelings. Or, you can be a little more structured in your approach - writing at the same time every day. Alternatively, some people just like to write when the mood takes them and when they have something to say. If you need a little help getting started, here are some prompts you can use.

Strengths & Challenges

What challenges have you experienced in recent weeks, months or years? Explore these - what made these experiences challenging? How did you navigate these challenges? What strengths did you draw on? What have you learned about yourself? How will you take these lessons into the coming days, weeks, months and years?

A Silver Lining....

What silver linings have you found throughout the recent challenges navigating a global pandemic, school closure and social distancing? How will you capture these silver linings and ensure they continue into the coming days, weeks and months?

What I Have Learned...

What are some of the most memorable life-lessons you have amassed so far? How did you come to learn these? How have they helped shape who you are today? If you were to pass on some of this hard-earned wisdom to a younger sibling or cousin, what would you share?

My Best Possible Self

Think about your life in the future. Imagine that everything has gone as well as it possibly could. You have worked hard and succeeded at accomplishing all of your life goals. Think of this as the realization of all of your life dreams. Now, write about what you imagined.

Capturing Happiest Moments

Try to recall some of the most wonderful experiences in your life. These could simply be being with friends, listening to music or experiencing success in a chosen endeavour. Try to imagine yourself in that moment. What did it feel like? Capture as many details as you can in writing, savouring the experience and all the associated positive emotions.

My Hopes and Dreams

What are your hopes for the future? For the coming days, weeks and years? Who do you want to be? What kind of contribution do you want to make in the world? How will you make this happen? Capture these hopes and dreams and see if you can shape a pathway towards achieving this vision of the future.
