The Glens Falls Middle School houses grades 5, 6, 7 and 8, and offers academic, artistic and athletic curricula within the framework of a team structure. The team program offers structure and support of the acquisition of skills essential to the learning process.
Through the summer, school counselors work to create student schedules and resolve schedule conflicts. Completed schedules will be released mid to late August. All requests for changes in course selection must be communicated with the student's assigned school counselor. Change requests will only be considered due to extenuating circumstances and with permission of the building principal.
Provided below is information about the GFMS school counseling program and some of the ways school counselors work with students at each grade level throughout the year. School counselors are available to all students to support students academically to achieve their full potential as they learn and grow.
School counselors conduct classroom presentations to assist students in requesting courses for their freshman year of high school. Course requests are based on graduation requirements, student interest, and successful completion of current courses. From March through June, school counselors meet with students individually for annual progress meetings. During these meetings, student progress toward graduation, course selections, and future goals are reviewed.
