The 7th grade world language courses prepare students for the corresponding 8th Grade World courses which are High School regents level courses (1 credit) required for high school graduation. Students must successfully complete the corresponding 7th grade French or Spanish in order to move up to Level 1 in the 8th grade . 7th grade focuses on Communication and Cultural Awareness. Students develop Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills in the target language. They will learn vocabulary on everyday topics such as: meeting and greeting; likes and dislikes; activities; describing family and friends; well-being; school and classes; physical environment; entertainment and the arts. Students practice communicating for the purposes of: Socializing, Obtaining Information, Expressing Feelings and Opinions, Persuading others to adopt a course of action.
1 Credit—Prerequisite: Successful completion of 7 French or 7 Spanish.

Building on 7th grade, they will learn vocabulary on everyday topics such as: meeting and greeting; likes and dislikes; free time activities; describing family and friends; well-being; school and classes; physical environment; making plans; food and restaurants; shopping; house and responsibilities; city and community; travel; professions; entertainment and the arts. Students practice communicating for the purposes of: Socializing, Obtaining Information, Expressing Feelings and Opinions, Persuading others to adopt a course of action.
