This class is to promote physical fitness and create lifelong learners regarding physical activity. The curriculum varies on a three year cycle, with repeat activities on certain years. As an example, a student may only have volleyball every third year (while they will have swimming each year). * Swimming is part of the curriculum and done on a yearly basis. We encourage students/families to be prepared for this unit to take place sometime during the winter months.
Other activities offered vary between competitive sports, lifelong fitness activities, as well as cooperative games. This class is graded as a “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory”. Grading is based mostly on participation.
In terms of changing, students are no longer required to change, however must be appropriately prepared for class (as example, a student who attends school in sneakers, t-shirt, and shorts would be considered properly dressed for class). Some examples of inappropriate attire would be jeans, flipflops, sandals, baggy pants, dresses, anything that has zippers, belt loops or buttons etc…
*Swimming is graded differently than the other units due to the fact students are being discouraged to avoid the swim unit.
