At the conclusion of each Unified Arts cycle (5-10 weeks) students will receive an S or U Report Card that falls after the conclusion of that cycle. If you have any questions about your child's UA class, please contact their teacher directly.
Variations within Student Schedules
Our goal is to provide a balanced schedule for each student. While there is value in a study hall, we hope to limit multiple study halls by providing students course work based on their interests, needs and strengths. Enrollment in the following courses will be unique to each student:
Band, Chorus, Orchestra
Learning Lab (AIS/RTI)
Support Lab
Accelerated Math Lab (Grade 7)
BOCES Enrichment (Grades 5 & 6)
Exploratory Offerings (vary by year and grade level)

Response to Intervention Defined:
Response to Intervention integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement. With RTI, schools can use data to identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust the intensity and nature of those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness, and identify students with learning disabilities. (NCRTI, 2010).
Academic Intervention Services Defined:
Academic Intervention Services (AIS) means additional instruction and/or student support services which supplement the instruction provided in the general curriculum and assist students in meeting the State learning standards.
Tier 1 Classroom Instruction
ELA - Our curriculum is designed following the science of reading. Building upon the work of our elementary schools, our units have been carefully designed to align to New York State Next Gen Standards to ensure that all students have access and opportunity to grow as readers and writers while preparing for secondary and post-secondary ELA work. These units incorporate: modeling with the use of high quality, authentic grade level texts, time for work at each child’s instructional level and daily practice at each child’s independent reading level. Through this research based approach, our students will grow in the habits and strategies of lifelong readers and writers.
Math - Our K-8 curriculum is the i-ReadyMath program, which is aligned to the New York State Next Gen Standards.
Tier 2 Strategic Intervention
Using multiple data points, students performing one grade level below in one or more standards are identified as in need of Tier 2 intervention. This support is provided by a classroom teacher during the ELA block, and/or WIN (What I Need) time (grades 5) or in place of a study hall (grades 7 and 8). To supplement Tier 1 instruction, group size is decreased and frequency is increased to provide intervention in identified deficit areas. Assistance is also available to Tier 2 students in support labs and after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 30 minutes. Progress monitoring is completed by the classroom teacher.
Tier 3 Intensive Intervention
Using multiple data points, students performing two or more grade levels below in one or more standards are identified as in need of Tier 3 intervention. This support is provided by a reading and/or math specialist in addition to the core block. In addition to Tier 2 support, Tier 3 intervention is provided in a small group setting using research based strategies to support student growth in identified areas and in support labs. Progress monitoring is completed by the AIS provider.
