Algebra I: 1 credit
5 MATH
5th Grade math reflects the focus and rigor of the common core learning standards We use the Ready Math Program while placing high emphasis on peer and group collaboration. Core concepts in 5th grade math are place value, fractions, decimals, and volume through complex problem solving.
6 MATH
Grade 6 Math uses Ready Mathematics and its iReady online supplemental program to prepare students for mastery on the Common Core’s rigorous standards through the balance of conceptual understandings, procedural skills, fluency and application.
7 MATH
In Grade 7, instructional time should focus on four critical areas:
(1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
8 MATH
In Grade 8, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.
ALGEBRA 1
1 credit
Algebra I is a full year Honors Level Course that emphasizes the Common Core and New York State standards in High School Mathematics. Students will encounter challenging tasks that allow them to not only perform the functions of Algebra but prove and justify the concepts. Algebra I is a full year course that terminates in a Regents Examination.
The following is an overview of the topics that will be covered:
Foundations of Algebra and Introduction to Equations, Linear Inequalities, Linear Functions, Systems of Linear Equations, Operations on Polynomials, Factoring Polynomials/ Simplifying radical Expressions, Solving Quadratic Equations, Quadratic Functions, Exponential Functions, Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences, Extending Functions- Absolute Value Functions, Square Roots Functions, Cubic Functions, Cubed Root Functions, Piecewise Functions, Step Functions
Statistics and Interpreting Data.
MATH AIS II
This class is aligned with the New York State Mathematics Standards. Topics are similar to those covered in the core math class. This course will also concentrate on problem solving and mathematical reasoning as well as communication, connections, and representation of mathematical concepts
MATH AIS III
This class is aligned with each students’ individual area(s) of need. Math AIS III is designed to help strengthen number sense, computation, geometry, and word problems as well as fill in gaps students may have from previous math courses. This course uses direct individual instruction, small group instruction and technology to assist students.
7 ACCELERATED MATH LAB
The goal of this lab will be to provide students with access to 8th grade curriculum in a problem solving model. This class will be supplemental to a student’s traditional 7th grade math course, as such, homework or outside work will not be assigned
