Please make sure you have the most current syllabus example. To get this, email the course lead, jfreitag@georgefox.edu or gscgradasst@georgefox.edu
We value the expertise you bring to the classroom and are open to syllabus adjustments. However, because of our CACREP accreditation and the assessment requirements, some assignments, course objectives and content areas MAY need to remain as noted on the sample syllabus. Any questions or recommendations for future changes can be directed to your course lead.
If you do not yet have the course required texts, please email gscgradasst@georgefox.edu, and our graduate assistant will work on getting textbooks to you.
Note - we often have to place textbook orders with Follett before we are able to have adjuncts assigned to their courses. When that is the case, we may not be able to change a required text. Check with your course lead and the gscgradasst@georgefox.edu about any specific text questions or changes you would like to make.
In your syllabus, make sure to include the following:
Your contact information and office hours
All descriptions of major assignments which you will count for points. Stick to your due dates and make sure they are clear in the syllabus.
Textbooks - all courses have approved textbooks/course materials that may have been previously ordered due to advance deadlines and Federal early disclosure requirements as noted above. The GSC will provide you with a desk copy of the textbook(s). Note - if the textbook adoption date has passed, changes typically may not be made to the required course materials listed in the syllabus. You may always recommend additional materials but may not require additional materials or add assignments based on materials not originally disclosed through the textbook adoption process. Contact the gscgradasst@georgefox.edu and your course lead if you have questions.
GSC attendance policy. Because our courses are offered in multiple formats, the attendance policy is complicated and should be listed in full on your syllabus. The most current statement can be found here.
A class calendar with readings specified and homework deadlines outlined. See the Lesson Planning for Adults module for examples of how to break up the sessions.
Class Breaks - each course credit represents 15 hours of classroom seat time including breaks. When calculating your class schedule, it is customary to provide a 10-15 minute break for students every 1 ½ to 2 hours, with an hour for lunch if you are teaching a day-long course. See the Program Resources page for more details.
A statement that informs students that the calendar may be subject to change.
Please include specific instructions about what participation looks like in your classroom (a technology policy, how students demonstrate they are "prepared", how students should take notes, etc.)
Disability and Accessibility Statements - the most current editions that should be included may be found here.
When complete, and no later than the second week of the semester, please email your finished syllabus in Word or PDF to the GSC Grad Assistant at gscgradasst@georgefox.edu Preferred naming paradigm is CourseID#SectionCourseTitleLastnameofinstructor. Example: GCEP500P1IntrotoMarriageandFamilyTherapyJones.docx
If your course is scheduled for later in the semester, please email it to gscgradasst@georgefox.edu as soon as you make it available to your class roster.
You may make your syllabus available to students in advance or on the first day of class by posting it to your course site in Canvas, emailing it to your class roster through Canvas, etc.
