We understand that the first day at a new school can be quite daunting for the student and parents, but we would like to assure you that we will provide the best possible care for your child and make your first day as easy as possible.
Read through the guidance below, and if you still have any questions about the first day, please do reach out to us.
Week 1 for FS1 and FS2
The first week of school for all of our Foundation Stage students will be a gradual start schedule consisting of:
A 15-minute ‘Family First’ parent teacher meeting (Scheduled for Monday 25th or Tuesday 26th August)
My first morning at school, including a parental engagement in the classroom (Either Wednesday 27th or Thursday 28th August)
My first full day at school (Friday, 29th August)
Your personalised schedule and timings for the above will be shared with you by your new class teacher.
Monday 25th August - Year 1-4
The first day of school for new WIS students in Years 1-4 will be on Monday, 25th August. Drop-off time for new students is from 7:15 am - 7:40 am. Your Head of Year will share with you via email what exit and entrance point you should use.
After your children have been dropped off with their teacher, you are warmly invited to the theatre for a Principal's welcome at 8 am, followed by an opportunity to meet the Senior Leadership team in the cafe. This event will finish at approximately 8:45 am.
All new students should be collected at 12:30 pm on Monday, 25th August, from the collection point shared with you by your Head of Year.
Please use the designated entry points according to year group (see diagram below). Kindly note that parents will not be able to enter the school premises without the parent lanyard.
Please bring the following items to school each day. We encourage students to take ownership of their belongings and we ask that every item brought into school is clearly marked with name and class in case items are misplaced.
Please ensure that your child has enough food, stored in a cool bag for one break and lunch, and water for the school day. Water dispensers are available in corridors and communal areas to refill. Children are only required to bring a small bag each day with their water bottle, lunch box and device (Years 2-4). Just so you know, wheelie bags are not allowed.
We encourage students to bring healthy and well balanced lunch boxes to school. It must be noted that the school operates a strict no-nuts policy (including Nutella) to ensure we maximise student safety in relation to allergies. In line with Muslim values and respect for local culture, we also do not allow pork products into school.
For Years 3 and above, we operate a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy as part of outstanding digital provision. As education constantly innovates within the world around us, we have a commitment at WIS towards the safe and effective use of technological devices as learning tools. Students in FS - Year 2 do not require an electronic device for learning. Below are more details and examples of how we use devices to inspire and support your child’s learning at school.
Accessing inspiring online resources – limiting the need for printed textbooks and worksheets
Interactive quizzes and activities to check understanding and provide instant feedback
Creating and recording videos to explain and showcase their learning and understanding
Self and peer assessment opportunities
Developing independent learning skills, directed by teachers such as TTRockstars to practice times table fluency and Spelling Shed to promote spelling strategies
When devices are not being used during learning time, teachers and staff ensure they are put away either in children’s boxes or bags
All lessons are taught face-to-face, and no lessons are taught online
We are committed to developing children’s writing and fine motor skills; therefore, students have exercise books for every subject, which contain the vast majority of students’ work.
Thank you for your support and partnership with this BYOD approach for enhancing your children’s learning. Please refer to this FAQs sheet and Device Policy for further information. Recommended device specifications and a list of applications can be found here.
After day 1, please adhere to the school timings below. For more information about day 1, kindly read the 'What to Expect on Day 1' section.
We believe that good attendance and punctuality are vital indicators of an outstanding school. These factors are also key in enabling students to make the most of their learning opportunities and prepare for a successful transition into the world of higher education or employment.
