If it's at the same venue (e.g. Bob's Big Burger Bar hosts GWD on Tuesdays and JBL on Saturdays), plug away!
If you host GWD at Bob's Big Burger Bar and JBL at a different, totally unassociated venue, then please don't. Our clients don't like that.
Yes, there is, friend-o. Just go here, copy the slide to your Drive, and you can edit it and add it to your quiz's slideshow.
Nope! Totally fine with the legal team over at Sony/Jeopardy. You can still meet Jennings or Jost. Do us proud on there.
If you are a full-time team member at Geeks Who Drink, it depends. Short answer is that it depends on how involved that staff member is with the team at Sony/Jeopardy. The important thing is for anyone going through the contestant process, they need to disclose that they work for Geeks Who Drink. The legal team at Sony/Jeopardy would decide on their eligibility on a case-by-case basis.
Look it up! There are lots of helpful videos on the internet that demonstrate proper pronunciation for pretty much everything.
As the host, you don't currently (as of August 18, 2025) have the ability to edit a team's name. This is currently in the process of being updated. Until then:
Keep an eye on team names as they crawl across the Welcome screen
Always double-check during the Leaderboard breaks and as they appear as the fastest correct response
If a team violates our policy [Do not make jokes or any other remarks about anyone, present or otherwise, based on race, ethnicity, nationality, language, class, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics, age, health, disability, or any other status], you must kill the game session immediately.
If you become aware of an offensive team name before Double Jeopardy!, restart the game and announce that you are doing so due to a team name.
If you become aware of an offensive team name after Double Jeopardy! has started, the game is over. Kill the session and announce that you are ending the game early due to a team name.
In either case, please email qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com to give us a heads up so that we are able to back you up if needed.
Announce that you'll be taking a break, make sure your music is playing, and then take a break!
There is a 10 minute break in the middle of the Jeopardy! Round, a 10 minute break before Double Jeopardy!, and a 5 minute break before Final Jeopardy!
Please make sure that you are utilizing the entirety of the break time, even if you feel ready to continue. The timing is important to keep the JBL runtime at 2 hours.
Ties are broken by total timed score. Under the hood, we keep a timer for the response time for every question answered by a team. When two players have the same score, the leaderboard sorts by which team answered the most correct responses the fastest.
This includes if two teams score 0 total points at the end of the game and are tied for second.
Example:
Let's say the clue was worth 1000 pts and there was 10 seconds left on the timer
If I responded correctly at 9 seconds, my timed score would increase by 900
If I responded correctly at 2 seconds, my timed score would increase by 200
The host (and teams) won't see all this background calculation, other than seeing two teams with the same score and one of the teams higher on the leaderboard.
There is not a way to prevent this from happening, but something is in the works. Hey, I guess they really like the quiz! There are some tips if you notice that this has happened: Don’t mention it on the microphone as we do not want venue staff to get upset. There's something in the works for adjusting their score later on so that they drop to 0.
If this happens, the captain will simply select the 3-line menu on their screen, click "Change captain", and select a new captain. That's it! Make sure that another member of the team is actually registered to your team, otherwise this option won't appear.
Yes. A player may need to refresh their browser if something gets stuck or if they are not seeing the answer blanks. This should not happen, but hey, it's the Internet and a lot of weird stuff happens! If a player refreshes, they should be fine. They will not even lose any answers!
The only caveat is they need to reconnect to the quiz using the same phone and the same browser. They also need to not be in incognito mode. If all those things are adhered to, they should be fine.
They can change captain by hitting their three-line menu and pressing Change Captain. If the QR code is giving them hassle, there's a four-digit code one of the players can use.
Or the captain can sign in on a new device. The new device should be able to identify their previous log-in credentials and they'll be able to pick back up with the game where they left off.
If you're a new host being trained, then you're responsible for your tab on in-venue training nights.
If you're a host (including substitute hosts) and the venue seemed to be confused or didn't realize they needed to cover you, keep your receipt and fill out the reimbursement form.
After filling out the form, send a heads up to your manager at qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com to let them know. Please include the date of the quiz, the name of the venue, and the city and state of the venue.
Gently let the venue know they're supposed to hand out 3 bonus prizes, but do not argue with them about it. If they don't want to provide the standard prizes (1st and 2nd place, plus 3 bonus prizes), work with whatever you have for that night and immediately let your manager know by emailing qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com. Frequently, not providing the correct prizes is just a misunderstanding of the venue's contract and usually by someone who hasn't had a chance to read the contract.
Your Event Report is due within 24 hours of the event start time. For example, if your event started at 7:00pm on Tuesday, your report is due 7:00pm Wednesday. It is your virtual time card and how you get paid. It is easy to do. Please do it.
The QM Support Team is very flexible on overdue blogs, but excessive late or missing blogs can lead to remedial action up to and including termination of your position with Geeks Who Drink.
The three likeliest reasons are:
You uploaded your scores first and are now receiving an error message. Always upload your pictures first to avoid this, but to clear the error all you need to do is upload the pictures, click the blue "Save" button, and you should be able to publish.
They're HEICs. OYQ doesn't currently support that format. You'll need to convert the HEICs into PNGs or JPGs.
The file sizes are way too large. They should be about 1.2 MB or smaller. Anything larger than that will delay uploading or just not upload.
The most likely reason the pictures are flipped is because you took them in Portrait orientation instead of Landscape. If you notice your pictures flipping onto their side during the upload, do the following:
Remove them from the event report upload
Open them in your system's photo application
Rotate the photo, save, then rotate it again to the right orientation and save again.
Upload the new save file and things should work correctly!
If you notice your pictures are flipped after you've finished uploading, navigate to the "Quiz Events" tab on the Home page of OYQ, click on the pencil icon for the most recent event, Unpublish the report, and then complete the steps above before clicking Publish again.
Yes, you'll still be paid, but late and missing event reports are very bad. If you realize you've gone over 2 weeks without submitting, email qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com with the dates and locations of your missing reports.
This is probably happening because you got logged out of the OpCon, the host app, or both. No big deal! Just check the following:
If your screen looks like this when you navigate to playjeoparylive.com, just log in with your preferred method.
Then you'll enter the game code, and you should be prompted to take over as the host.
If your screen looks like this when you open the OpCon, but you're still not being prompted to take over as the host, click the three line menu in the top right, then My Account, Clear Data and Sign Out, and then log in with your preferred account (the same one you used in the host app).
If neither of these methods fix your issue, then the last option is to create an OpCon password.
In the host app, make sure you have already logged in. From the home screen, click Settings > OpCon > Change Password > Update Password > Open Web App. The password does not need to be complex or extra secure, just something that you'll be able to remember easily.
In the OpCon (web browser), you can log in with any join method. Click the three-line menu in the top right corner, then select Opcon Settings > Change Password > Update Opcon Password. This password should match the one you entered in the web app. Then back out and close the menu.
Enter a name and the game code. Even if the accounts do not match, as long as the OpCon passwords match you will be prompted to take over as the host. Click Accept.
This error means that the email you're trying to sign in with isn't a verified account. People have multiple emails and the one you're trying to log in with may not be the one we've verified. Double check your email in Personal info at https://auth.streamsix.com/auth
This website also allows you to reset or change your password (if you're logging in via a password instead of Google, etc) under Signing in in the Account Security section (see below).
If the dev team has recently completed an update to the software, you may need to hard refresh your browser and/or clear your browser's cache. Here's how:
Hard Refresh Shortcuts (Chrome):
Windows/Linux:
Ctrl + F5
or Shift + F5
or Ctrl + Shift + R
Mac:
Command (⌘) + Shift + R
These shortcuts force Chrome to bypass the cache and reload the page fully. You may need to press the shortcuts multiple times.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Hard Refresh Shortcut for Safari:
macOS:
Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + R
This forces Safari to reload the page without using the cache.
Important:
If that shortcut doesn’t work, you may need to enable the Develop menu first:
Enable the Develop Menu:
Open Safari.
Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences) > Advanced.
At the bottom, check: “Show Develop menu in menu bar”.
Once enabled, you can also:
Click Develop in the menu bar.
Select "Empty Caches" (Shift + Command + E) for a full cache clear.
Then do a normal reload (Command + R) to force a clean load.

How to Clear Cache in Your Browser
1. Safari (macOS)
To clear your cache and browsing history in Safari:
In the toolbar at the top of your screen, click Safari > Clear History.
In the dropdown menu, select the time period you want to clear.
If you're unsure, select "All History".
Click Clear History.
Refer to the figures below for visual guidance.
2. Google Chrome (macOS)
To clear your cache and browsing data in Chrome:
In the toolbar at the top of your screen, click Chrome > Delete Browsing Data.
Choose the time range you want to clear.
Click Delete Data.
Refer to the figures below for visual guidance.
For further instructions and information, check out this document of WebGL Instructions for different browsers.
Check out the AV Troubleshooting Guide for detailed steps.
Stuff happens. It does. Trust us. Trust science.
IF YOU WERE HOSTING ON STEAM:
The dev team may need to look into what went wrong by looking at your device logs. To retrieve those and send them in, follow the simple four-step process found in this PDF.
If you are a Mac user, you may have to go through additional steps to find your device logs after the above steps. Take a look at this PDF.
IF YOU WERE HOSTING ON WEBGL:
You will not be able to access your logs once you exit the app. At any point during the game, with the Opcon selected, open the settings by pressing ESC and then selecting Report Issue. Enter your email, a subject line, and then an account of the error and press Submit Feedback. A ticket will be opened automatically with the dev team so they can look into the issue. Please send an email to qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com as well so that we are aware of the problem.
In the top right-hand corner of the player screen, they should click the three-line menu and then select Report Issue. It will open a ticket with the dev team so they can look into the error.
Close the tab and open host.playjeopardy.live again
Click "Reconnect" on the menu screen
Your join code should be populated in the "Reconnect" dialogue box, and your venue/join code should appear in a list below. Click "Join" at the end of the line where your join code and venue name appear. Check the timestamp under "Created" to make sure you're not joining any trial or training runs. NOTE: If your join code is not populated in the "Reconnect" dialogue box, you can input the code and then select "Reconnect" again.
When prompted, click "Attempt Reconnection". Your game should resume where you left off.
IF RECONNECTION DOES NOT SOLVE ISSUES:
Open Jeopardy! Bar League in Steam (if you have a Steam copy)
Click Reconnect on the menu screen
Enter your join code and click Reconnect
Click Join
Your game should pick up where you left off.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A STEAM-BASED COPY OF JEOPARDY! BAR LEAGUE, you will need to keep attempting to reconnect on WebGL. If the game continues to crash/freeze/disconnect, let your point of contact at the venue know. You can try to run things on paper, using the PDF as a guide and giving Daily Doubles 2x the amount of points they're listed at on the board (just have teams trade and grade!), or the manager can decide to call it and cancel the event. Either way, let us know, and fill out a Host Showed, No Quiz event report in OYQ.
IMPORTANT: If you reconnect after a question was asked, that question will be marked as completed upon reconnecting. You can then manually select the next question or trigger an audience poll to move to the next question.
Refreshing the OpCon is totally fine, nothing will happen. Closing out of the host app (big screen game) will end the game. DO NOT DO THIS.
This can happen if there's a network disconnect right before the timer hits 0. First, try refreshing the browser. If that doesn't work, just press the Enter key while on the host app (currently steam, aka the "big screen" that players see). Pressing Enter will always advance the host app with or without network connection.
If you ever find that you need to reset your game - the wrong content is showing, the system is frozen, whatever the reason - DO NOT simply leave the game or exit. When you leave a game, the Opcon is set up to allow you to recover that session for 30 minutes. Instead, you need to kill the session in the host app and log out of the Opcon.
In the host app:
Press the Esc key to enter Settings.
Select "System" and then "Kill Session." This will completely close out of the host app and wipe your game state.
Launch the host app again, click "Play Game", and load your content.
In the Opcon:
Press the three-line menu (top right if you haven't entered the game yet, top left if you're already in the game controls) and select "My Account"
Select "Clear Data & Sign Out"
Log back in using your preferred method and enter the join code from the host app.
Click "Accept" when prompted to take over the Opcon.
If you close out of JBL, you have a 30 minute window to reconnect to a session. If you instead need to kill the session entirely, do the following:
Open the settings menu by pressing the "esc" key
Select System
Select Kill Session
Select Quit to confirm
On Steam, the applicaiton should then shut down
On WebGL, the webpage will become unresponsive and require a refresh or close
At this point, you can start a new session
If your players are experiencing issues with the game, they can click the three-line menu on their screen and complete a feedback form.
BEFORE REACHING OUT TO ANYONE, MAKE SURE YOU'VE GONE THROUGH THE TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS!
If you were able to resolve the issue on your own, great! We still want to know about it though. Email qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com and let us know what venue you were hosting at. You can also follow the "Report Issue" steps to make sure the dev team has a copy of your game logs.
If you weren't able to resolve the issue on your own, email qmsupport@geekswhodrink.com and someone will respond ASAP with guidance for next steps.
DO NOT CONTACT YOUR MANAGER DIRECTLY. QMSUPPORT IS THE ONLY INBOX MONITORED OUTSIDE OF REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS.
