Bienvenue à Français 9! This course will cover a number of big ideas! We will explore listening and viewing with intent as it strengthens our understanding and acquisition of French. We will also have meaningful conversations about things that are important to us in French. We will use stories as a way to give us unique methods to interpret and share knowledge, thoughts, and feelings. We will explore Francophone creative works and culture as well as acquiring French to explore our own cultural identity from a new perspective. French 9 is a requirement to continue in French 10 or to switch to Spanish 10.

This is a beginner course where students will begin to explore the Spanish language and culture. They will develop their writing, reading, speaking and listening skills with a focus on speaking and listening. The comprehensible-input model is used, which means that students will focus primarily on their listening and reading skills. The focus of instruction is to give the learner the beginnings of language and skills necessary for travelling to Spanish speaking countries. Students will be expected to participate on a daily basis. Daily review for this course is required. Students must be in class daily. Absences will hinder success in this course.

• Listening and viewing with intent supports our understanding and acquisition of a new language.

• Language strategies help us acquire a new language and understand a variety of messages.

• Stories help us make connections and communicate ideas in a meaningful way.

• Expressing ourselves in a new language requires courage, risk taking and perseverance.

• Creative works allow us to experience culture and appreciate cultural diversity in an authentic way.

• Acquiring a new language provides a unique opportunity to interact with diverse communities.

This course is for those students who are interested in learning the Shuswap language.  It is open to all students and, as an accredited course,  meets second language requirements.  It will introduce students to the vocabulary, grammar and sounds of the traditional Secwepemctsin language.

• Expressing oneself and engaging in conversation in French requires courage and risk taking.

• Acquiring French allows us to explore career, travel, personal growth, and study abroad opportunities.
