Bienvenue à Français 9! This course will cover a number of big ideas! We will explore listening and viewing with intent as it strengthens our understanding and acquisition of French. We will also have meaningful conversations about things that are important to us in French. We will use stories as a way to give us unique methods to interpret and share knowledge, thoughts, and feelings. We will explore Francophone creative works and culture as well as acquiring French to explore our own cultural identity from a new perspective. French 9 is a requirement to continue in French 10 or to switch to Spanish 10.

This is a beginner course where students will begin to explore the Spanish language and culture. They will develop their writing, reading, speaking and listening skills with a focus on speaking and listening. The comprehensible-input model is used, which means that students will focus primarily on their listening and reading skills. The focus of instruction is to give the learner the beginnings of language and skills necessary for travelling to Spanish speaking countries. Students will be expected to participate on a daily basis. Daily review for this course is required. Students must be in class daily. Absences will hinder success in this course.

This course is for those students who are interested in learning the Shuswap language. It is open to all students and, as an accredited course, meets second language requirements. It will introduce students to the vocabulary, grammar and sounds of the traditional Secwepemctsin language.
This course offers a comprehensive foundation to the study of Japanese. Students will learn two of the phonetic systems and begin the study of the ‘Chinese’ characters. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Japanese are emphasised in each lesson, and students will have the opportunity to display progress in these areas in a variety of different ways. Students will also have an opportunity to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture by exploring Japanese music, movies, art, food, and much more.
