Bienvenue à Français 11! In French 11, there will be greater focus on our communicative skills. You will be expected to use the language as a tool to gather information, narrate, describe, express and support opinions. We will be moving forward with the language through the development of verb tenses.
The communicative-experiential approach will be used. The focus of instruction is the purposeful use of the language to perform real-life tasks, share ideas, acquire information and get things done.
Daily participation and review is expected of the students in this course.

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español 11! This is an intermediate course where students build on the skills acquired in Spanish 10. Students will continue to develop their writing, reading, speaking and listening skills, with an increased focus on speaking. The central focus of the course will continue to be to increase their proficiency in listening and reading. Students will expand their vocabulary, learn more difficult verb tenses, and grow their confidence in spoken Spanish. The comprehensible-input model is used, which means that students will focus primarily on their listening and reading skills (input). Students will be expected to participate on a daily basis. This course has an increased workload. New and increasingly complex vocabulary and verb tenses will be covered. Daily review for this course is required. Students must attend class daily. Absences will hinder success in this course.
(Prerequisite: Secwepemctsin 10)
This course meets the language requirement for university entrance. Students will build on their vocabulary, reading and conversation skills, as well as learning the basics of writing the Secwepemctsin language. Students will also continue to learn about Secwepemc culture, history and traditions. The prerequisite for this course is grade10 Secwepemctsin, or the ability to meet the proficiency levels of the grade 10 courses by means of the challenge process.

This course offers a comprehensive foundation to the study of Japanese. Students will learn two of the phonetic systems and begin the study of the ‘Chinese’ characters. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Japanese are emphasized in each lesson, and students will have the opportunity to display progress in these areas in a variety of different ways. Students will also have an opportunity to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture by exploring Japanese music, movies, art, food, and much more. This course can be taken by students in Grades 10, 11, or 12.
This course does not meet the Grade 11 language requirements for post secondary. Japanese 11 can be taken the following year to have it qualify as a Grade 11 requirement.

Bienvenue à Français 12! In French 12, the students should have the ability to converse with each other and the teacher. There will be an increased focus on listening and speaking. Reading and writing will continue to be an important aspect of the course as well.
In addition, an emphasis will be placed on increased cultural awareness through the study of Francophone nations throughout the world. Language use requires an understanding of the cultural context within which communication takes place.

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español 12! Spanish 12 is an intermediate high course where students build on the skills acquired in Spanish 11. In this class, students will be expected to increase their oral and written output. There will be higher expectations to speak Spanish with the teacher and classmates. Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate in increasingly complex ways. They will expand their vocabulary, learning more difficult verb tenses and grammatical concepts. Students will continue to explore Spanish culture. Students will be expected to participate on a daily basis, and spend some time outside of class practising. This course will have an increased workload as we will be introducing new vocabulary, new verb tenses and irregular verbs. It is important that students must be in class daily. Absences will hinder success in this course.
(Prerequisite: Secwepemctsin 11)
This course is based upon knowledge from the beginner level Secwépemc Language 8 course, and will hold more advanced sentence structures and expectations. Although a student could get by without the base course. Language is based on land, culture and traditions and will be incorporated into the course through poster projects, worksheets and group assignments. Understanding reduplication, person markers, and sounds of the language is an essential skill and will be tested throughout the course.
