active living 11 and 12
The goal of senior PE is to give students an opportunity to enhance their performance in four specific areas: recreational activities, leadership, fitness, and active health. Senior PE students will be involved in volunteer and leadership positions in the school and community. This class has been deemed an enhanced program and may include recreational activities such as climbing, mountain biking, swimming, skating and yoga.
Students will be required to offer volunteer time to the school and community. Students will be given certificates for completing the requirements in First Aid and in any other provincially sanctioned mini-course that may be offered.

FITT 4 LIFE: fitness and conditioning 11 and 12
Level 1: This FITT4LIFE course emphasizes your overall well being and promotes a healthy lifestyle. The course will focus on a more individualized approach and will include a selection of activities like aerobics, ball, Pilates, hiking , strength training, yoga, community exploration, etc.
Students will learn to maintain and improve personal fitness and mental well-being through participation, goal setting and developing an understanding of the various components of fitness.

Level 2: This is a course designed for students at an intermediate to advanced HIGHER IMPACT level of fitness. Students will learn to maintain and improve personal fitness and mental well-being through participation, goal setting and developing an understanding of the various components of fitness. The course will focus on a more individualized approach and will include a selection of activities like a run-walk training program, aerobics, ball, Pilates, hiking , strength training, yoga, community exploration, etc. Level 1 is not a prerequisite to take this course. This class has been deemed an enhancement program. Classes will tour fitness facilities in the community and have specialty instructors brought in as guests. The fee for this course is $55.
outdoor education 11 and 12
Are you interested in exploring outdoor activities and learning about the adventure tourism sector outside the classroom, in the natural environment? Are you interested in developing your communication, teamwork and collaboration skills? Then Outdoor Education 12 is the course for you! Activities can include hiking, back country backpacking, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, fishing, geocaching, orienteering, mountaineering and outdoor games. Additional topics discussed throughout the course will include first aid, back country cooking, plant and animal identification, wilderness survival and safety, environmental footprints, and jobs relating to the outdoors and tourism industry.
Candidates for Outdoor Education must:
Have an interest in the natural world and be willing to participate in outdoor activities, in a variety of weather conditions;
Have a positive attitude and demonstrate personal responsibility and collaboration with others;
Commit to regular attendance; and
Be willing to try new activities!
***The cost for this course is $180 which covers all field trips, rental of various equipment, and an overnight backpacking trip.
sport specific 11
This course is designed for male and female athletes in grades 11 and 12 who want sport specific training,
Sports Specific is an in-depth course designed to give students a sound foundation in specific sports. Students will be involved in individual skill development, conditioning, and team strategy analysis. In addition, students will also learn about the mental aspects of sports, and how it relates to life. Along with individual and team aspects of sports, students will be exposed to the often-overlooked sides of sport: coaching and refereeing. Finally, students will learn from a variety of experiences, hands on practice, guest speakers (coaches, referees, and University level players), various types of media and literature, as well as direct and indirect instruction from the teacher, guest speakers and fellow students.
Prerequisite: Students must have participated on a school or community team, or through teacher permission.

human performance 12
This course is designed for students wishing to improve their athletic potential through a structured fitness program. The course goals are to create positive attitudes from personal achievement and to fulfill one's potential. High performance training will focus on the areas of strength, power, flexibility, agility and endurance. Students will be able to 'tailor' their workout program to whichever sport(s) interest them. Other topics of the course will include physiology, anatomy, nutrition, care of sports injuries and the dangers of steroids.
Evaluation will be based on the use of performance improvement time, techniques, organization, motivation, and theory components in health and fitness.
The course is divided between workouts, lectures, labs and field trips. Students who have a strong interest in careers in Athletics, PE, Nursing or therapeutic mediums (physiotherapy, occupational therapy), are encouraged to take this course.
Students must be very self-motivated. Students can take Active Living 11 or 12 concurrently with this course.
