As the school year winds down, our 8th grade students are not only celebrating how far they’ve come, they’re also looking ahead with excitement and confidence. This year marked a time of growth, learning, and meaningful moments, and now, as they prepare to leave for high school, they’re offering some words of advice to the incoming 8th grade class.
Here’s what a few of our soon-to-be high schoolers had to say:
"This year taught me that it’s okay to ask for help and that small steps still count as progress. I wish I had known earlier that being yourself is more important than trying to fit in. What helped me succeed was staying organized, talking to my teachers when I needed help, and keeping a positive attitude even on tough days. My advice: Don’t be afraid to try new things, speak up, and take care of yourself. Eighth grade goes by fast—make it count! You’ve got this!" 💯
— Bria W.
"One thing I would share with incoming 8th graders is always be prepared for new obstacles. You never know when or what you will encounter."
— Raigen D.
"You can enjoy the adventure, and you don’t need to rush through everything. The years go by faster than you think."
— Perri B.
"Something that really helps is listening to your teachers, and don’t get overwhelmed if you're behind just ask for an extension and STUDY before a test. I feel super prepared for high school."
— Andrew B.
"Some advice I would give is that although some teachers might seem strict, they always have your best interests at heart. At the beginning of the year, I was overwhelmed and stressed, but by the end, I feel more prepared for high school than ever."
— Adonis G.
"Be prepared for all your classes, and don’t be late!"
— Dylan L.
"Really enjoy your last year as an 8th grade. It goes by so fast, and you won’t even realize it. Cherish your last year as a middle schooler. High school is coming quicker than you think!"
— Sophia L.
"Something I wish I had known was not to stress too much about projects or tests. In the grand scheme of things, they’re small, and the storm will pass. Managing my time helped me balance school with time for myself. The most meaningful part of this year was the friendships I made."
— Caleb T.
"Don’t wait until the last minute to do your work."
— Todd W.
"I wish I had known how not to stress over assignments. Studying and taking notes helped me, so many of the tests and assignments are easier if you just pay attention in class. What made this year meaningful was spending time with my friends in DC."
— Milena M.
As these students close one chapter and prepare to write the next, their reflections offer a powerful reminder that growth comes not just from the classroom, but from the relationships, challenges, and memories that shape us. To the Class of 2025,Congratulations, and thank you for inspiring the next group of 8th graders.
