7th grade girls volleyball:
Our 7th grade stars continue to improve week after week. With each practice and game, their teamwork and skills have improve. Their positive attitude and perseverance are paying off in personal player development. The team has two more away game left in the season where we hope to have positive results and see more growth. - Coach Sanders
8th grade girls volleyball:
The 8th grade girls volleyball team has been doing a tremendous job at building relationships with one another and putting our best foot forward together as a team. We recently won our first two matches/game against Shorewood and look forward to ending this season with more victories and success. -Coach Birmingham
6th-8th grade boys volleyball:
The team is getting better each week! We have been battling each opponent and playing competitively against each team we come across. The boys have improved their serving percentage, their teamwork, hustle, and are getting especially good at serve receiving to keep the ball in play. The boys are excited about their progress and we look forward to the last few games of the season. -Coach Sladek
6th-8th Wrestling Wrap up:
Competition wrapped up on Saturday 3/2 for the middle school team with the Milwaukee Area Conference Tournament (AKA "The MAC"). Your Nicolet grapplers did NOT enter the tournament on a winning streak, after losing four straight, but we spent our last practice together focused exclusively on tournament prep: weigh-in, nutrition, warmup, mindset, and tasking experienced wrestlers with leadership roles. It all paid off in the end, as can be seen in our results from Saturday:
By the Numbers:
Post-COVID, we had been stuck in the middle of the pack in the MAC for two consecutive seasons. Our performance Saturday raised the bar:
2022: 5th place, 13 wrestlers competing, 80 team points
2023: 5th place, 14 wrestlers competing, 79 team points
2024: 4th place, 20 wrestlers competing, 118 team points
Moving Forward:
The program goals always include recruiting high-character kids, as we always want our 8th graders' leadership and work ethic to trickle down to younger wrestlers who carry the torch into the next season. Returning wrestlers, JV and Varsity, will have a ton of local options for becoming better wrestlers (AWA or other private clubs and camps) and/or better athletes in general (strength training and/or playing other sports). Program-specifically, we need bigger wrestlers to fill our lineup in the upper weights, and I would like to see female participation grow as our middle school athletes see the example set by Nicolet's Daisy Altman and Victoria Jewell (first WIAA state qualifiers in school history).
On to the results! (tournament placings):
JV:
5th: Silas Carlson
4th: Evan "The Don" Dondlinger, Ali "The Greatest" Al Kalbani
2nd: Logan "Stratocaster" Stratton, Jerry "Bonus" Jonas, James "Future City" Hinchey
JV CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS: Jasiah "Mean" Steen, Mario "Gucci" Panicucci, Karanja "The N is silent" Njuguna, Condella "Big Del" Sanford
Varsity placers (many brackets were 8-9 wrestlers):
6th: Gabriel "No Stress" Hess (Hess avenging a loss to Whitefish Bay was a highlight of the tournament for me!)
5th: Ian "Ready for" Warwick
4th: Micah "The Mountain" Suesskind (Micah weighs 66 lbs. and is going to be a terror when he puts on some size!), Nico "get the led out" Ledbetter (Nico's losses were to older, all-state wrestlers), and "Amazing" Gracin Frederick
2nd: Yosef "True Dat" Truitt, Rocket "Science" Altmann
AND YOUR UNDEFEATED 2024 MAC CHAMPIONS: ACIE "H-BOMB" HOLLAND and ADLER "BIG MAC" OLESZAK
Huge thank you to all the parents, especially Justin Oleszak and Tim Paniccuci for coaching! Supportive family involvement is crucial to long-term success of any program, any you all provide it! Stay tuned for announcements on: post-season training for state qualifiers, handing in equipment, local training and camp opportunities, and our combined team banquet! -Coach Domski
