STEM CLUB:
Around 60 students participate in our STEM Club on Wednesdays after school. We have accomplished a lot this year in our STEM Club.
Students have worked on the following NASA Missions so far:
1. Creating a Mission Patch
2. Getting to the Moon through Bottle Rocket Launches
3. Building Habitats on the Moon
4. Gardening on the Moon
5. Listening to the Astronaut and learning about the Moon
6. Participating in a virtual Presentation by the Aerospace Engineer
They will work on the following NASA Missions in the next few weeks:
1. ROV-ing on the Moon- building a rover using the Lego Prime and doing certain tasks
2. Observing the Earth from the Moon- Students should write two paragraphs about observing the Earth from the Moon during Eclipses
Those students who complete all of the above tasks will be invited for a week-long camp at the Kennedy Space Center during the Summer.
Tomatosphere- Science Experiment
We have received two types of seeds from NASA this week. One set was flown in Space and the other one did not. We need to plant them under various environments and submit the results to get prizes. We will plant them outdoors, in the hydroponic system, and under the Grow Light to see which conditions are suitable for growing the tomatoes. This program allows students to investigate the effects of the space environment on the growth of food that will inevitably support long-term human space travel.
Cubes in Space Program:
Students will work with scientists to design, research, and test experiments on NASA missions. Currently, we are working on four different experiments.
Field Trip:
We are taking a field trip to the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 9 am - 1 pm.
CHESS CLUB:
Over 50 students participated in our afterschool chess club this year. We conducted two chess tournaments: one in January and the second one in April. Our students won team trophies for both K-12 and K-5 divisions and first and third place in the K-12 division.
