Letter to the Community

Claim: GCCS students reflect upon their individual and classroom community's social and emotional growth using the school’s Character Traits in order to contribute to a community of ethical people.

All Sixth Graders at GCCS must be able to speak to their contributions to final products and community service during Passage Presentations. As part of their Passage Portfolio, students write a letter to the community stating how they know they are ready to be an active citizen and student after GCCS. They must describe an experience in which they made a contribution to something greater than themselves and what they learned about their skills, abilities, passions, and character. This reflection is evaluated by GCCS staff members using a standardized rubric to determine the effectiveness and clarity of their claims.
