Character

Claim: GCCS students reflect upon their individual and classroom community's social and emotional growth using the school’s Character Traits in order to contribute to a community of ethical people.

At GCCS, we believe ethical people show collaboration, compassion, and initiative when working with others in the classroom and the school community. Over the years we have worked hard to help our students develop these skills as how we learn together is just as important as what we learn. Visitors to GCCS often comment on our strong, cohesive and consistent community.

Over the years, we’ve continued to sustain our community culture by intentionally focusing on our character traits and providing daily opportunities for students to work together.

Last year, there was a change in leadership. Our founding School Leader retired after 17 years at GCCS. With new leadership, one might expect a change in the culture of the school, but this is not what happened here at GCCS. Due to the structures and routines that we have in place and new things we started this year, the community continues to be made up of ethical students contributing to a positive school community.

Student-led conferences and Passage Presentations feature students as leaders of their own learning.

Sixth-graders reflect on their role as community members through service and leadership.

High attendance rates, low suspension rates, and strong parent satisfaction reflect a strong school culture that honors diversity and inclusion.
