Task 2.1 - Target Audience Selection
My project will most likely be targeted towards young adults of any gender aged about their early 20s or late teens, as this is one of the highest demographics of video game players, taking up about 72% of the total player base. I do not need to worry about trying to appeal to a specific gender too much, as the differences between different genders of players is usually within 5% of a 50-50 split, mostly in favour of males.
Younger ages, such as 11-14 also take up a large portion of active players, at around 79%, and while they may not be my specific target audience, my project might still appeal to them as there are many similarities between these two age groups due to them being so close together. For example, I will most likely be using blues and greens for my project as they are the two most popular colours for ages from 19-24, with green especially fitting in well with the medieval, rural, agricultural theme my project will most likely be based around. However, these are also the two most popular colours for ages 1-18, so my project may still appeal to younger ages than I am targeting. I will try to avoid using dark reds as they are some of the least popular colours for most age groups.
I will most likely base my project as an Action-RPG, as the action genre is the most popular genre of game overall, favoured by 90.3% of players, as well as it being the second most popular choice for players between 18-22. Furthermore, the majority of films enjoyed by 15-24 year olds have action or adventure themes, such as "Fast & Furious 7", and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2". I additionally chose to base my project on an RPG genre as that was the most popular genre for 18-22 year olds. I intend to design my project to be played on PC due to this being the most popular platform for this age group, as well as for players as a whole. These genres work out really well for my project as both of these themes can easily be applied to a medieval setting.
As for advertisement for my game, my best options would be Twitter/X, Instagram and Snapchat as a major portion of about 30-40% of users on these social medias are within my target audience, aged around 18-24. This would give me the best chance for my target audience to actually see the project I have created and would hopefully appeal to them the most due to how I have targeted my project and theme towards them with choices such as theme, colour palette and platform.
Task 2.1 - Audience Interests & Statistical Data
These statistics show that a large popularity of people who play video games are in their late teens or are young adults, which is why I have chosen this age demographic to market my game towards.
These graphs show that blues and greens are the two most popular colours for my chosen age group, as well as blue being a popular colour across all age groups. They also show that darker red colours and oranges are less popular and more disliked for both my chosen target audience and other age groups as well. These opinions have influenced the colour choice I will be using in my project, focusing on blues and greens while avoiding reds and oranges.

These graphs and statistics from both games and films show that the action genre is one of the most popular genres for people aged 15-24, within my target audience, as well as overall. Therefore, I am basing my project around an action game. I will also keep in mind that the RPG genre is the most popular genre in my chosen age range, so I will try and incorporate that into my theme as well.
These graphs show that PCs are the most popular platform for people aged 18-22, as well as overall, therefore my project will be primarily intended to be experienced on a PC over other platforms.
These statistics show that Twitter/X, Instagram and Snapchat's largest age groups are mostly within the target audience I have chosen to direct my project towards, making these the optimal social media platforms to advertise my game on.
