Before you go any further, make a copy of the portfolio document (left) and then:
Share with Mr Wooldridge (SNW) - ensure edit rights
Ensure all members have access and editing rights
Add your group number to the front & group names on the next slide + a group photo
Note: You will add research and designs to this portfolio throughout this project. This completed project will be used to judge projects for the UWCSEA Mimic makers awards and will also be used as the submission to the Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge -ensure it is completed and professional.
TASK: [75 mins]
Locate your assigned problem below
Go to the webpage for your assigned problem and read through the 'overview of the problem' individually (5 mins)
Discuss as a group, your understanding of what the problem is and you're being asked to do (5 mins)
Assign the links to more information (boxes below the overview of the problem) to each member and read through the information that is linked (20 mins)
Take turns to share what you found out (10 mins)
As a group, try to define what the problem is and then write this in 100 word or less on your problem definition portfolio slide - add links to resources where possible (20 mins)
Use the notice board to add notes and images that help to unpack and define the problem.
Printed worksheets are available to help guide the unpacking of your challenge.
You may use this instead of the slides in your portfolio 9shown below) with the exception should use this and your portfolio slides - particularly the success criteria
The Iceberg worksheet will help you to unpack the problem and identify key causes and issues to solve.
Creating a list of success criteria will help to guide your project. List the things that your outcome must do/have/be.
Add your research to your portfolio, work through each of the questions/sections
THE PROBLEMS (locate yours and click the link to it)
Locate the problem number that your group will be tacking and then click on the corresponding problem link below and read through as a team before investigating.
On your table, you have an Iceberg Thinking Model Worksheet (a digital copy is in your portfolio). Use this to better understanding what is causing and/or contributing to the problem that you are investigating.
You can then use this information to guide and frame the next steps in your research and inquiry as you should be able to identify what you need to find out and understand before proposing a solution.
