Students and their projects will be assessed in three ways:
Individually by teachers against the UWCSEA project-based learning rubric (ongoing)
Self-assessed against the UWCSEA project-based learning rubric (end of project)
Against the project-specific assessment rubric that aligns with Biomimicry Institute Awards criteria (end of project)
Teachers and advisors will be monitoring group progress on an ongoing basis and assessment will be based around project based learning (PBL) guidelines and made using a PBL assessment rubric that focuses on how well students and/or groups are able to self regulate, demonstrate autonomy, show a growth mindset and take personal responsibility for their choices and actions.
Students will self-assess at the end of the project using skills based on approaches to learning (ATL).
This self-assessment will be done digitally using a Google Form, along with a written reflection focused on learning, project outcome and contribution.
As a group, students will be assessed against the Mimic Makers project-specific rubric (opposite).
Assessment will be made using the 1 minute video presentations that students will upload to Flipgrid. Each video will be watched and assessed. Three projects will be chosen to be submitted to the Biomimicry Institute's Youth Design Challenge.
The assessment panel for this will include:
Mr Wooldridge
Ms Perry
Mr Sparks
Mr Brogden
Note: You may also want to look over the awards and competition page as the most successful projects in one of the 5 categories will be submitted to The Biomimicry Institute's Youth Design Challenge (YDC).
