Wellness Education

Physical Education at UWCSEA East seeks to empower students to cope with life’s challenges and to value their physical, social, and mental wellbeing through leading an active lifestyle. Developing movement skills and concepts for our students to participate in physical activities with competency and confidence. The focus is on cultivating a positive learning environment that values and celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through practice and reflection, students are encouraged to use movement activities as a vehicle to strengthen relationships and develop effective teamwork, collaboration, and communication. Exploration of personal responsibility and safety concepts within activities will contribute towards the creation of a safe and respectful environment for all learners to thrive.

Course Outline

Grade 9

Students will engage in theme-based units that showcase the transfer of their knowledge, skills, and understanding through like activities.                                   

Grade 10

Students will be able to choose two different courses to take during their grade 10 year. Elective options have been built based on student feedback and will allow students to add depth of knowledge, skills, and understanding in areas they are interested in. 

Skills Developed

Physical and Wellness Education is a predominantly skills-based course in which students develop movement competency, analyse movement patterns, engage in programming, learn self care strategies, and grow in leadership skills and qualities in alignment with the UWC mission and values.

Assessment

In the Grade 9 and 10 PE course, assessments vary in their form and purpose, ranging from presentations and demonstrations to reflections, self assessments, and projects.
