We will nurture learners to see the power of mathematics by developing a rigorous approach to solving complex problems. Fostering skills of logical reasoning and proof, they will develop the capacity to critically and ethically analyse ideas and arguments and draw meaningful conclusions as change makers of the future. Working collaboratively, students will deepen their mathematical understanding by exploring and developing their own methods and approaches to solving problems and evaluate and contrast these with others’. They will cultivate a willingness to take risks, experiment and learn through both success and failure, developing perseverance, competence, and a confidence in mathematics.
Appreciate the elegance of mathematics as a powerful tool to offer mission aligned solutions in an ever changing and unpredictable world.
Foster skills of logical reasoning and proof, and develop the capacity to critically and ethically analyse ideas and arguments and draw meaningful conclusions as change makers of the future.
Develop a rigorous approach to solving complex problems and willingness to take risks, experiment and learn through both success and failure, cultivating perseverance, competence, and a confidence in mathematics.
Realise the beauty of mathematics in its own right, and the role it plays in nature and the universe, with opportunities to explore the rich cultural origins of the mathematical tools they are using.
Enrichment Mathematics has been specifically designed so that students will develop a richer and more rigorous approach in the application of their mathematics concepts so that they achieve a deep conceptual understanding. Students with a strong passion for learning mathematics should embark on this course, as they will have greater autonomy over how far they develop their mathematics.
Developing rigour in their thought processes, learners will develop the skills to effectively communicate ideas and outcomes and feel empowered to make positive change encompassing sustainability, unity and peace.
It is challenging to predict the necessary mathematical skills that our students will require in the future, as technology continues to develop rapidly. Prospective employers appreciate finely developed skills such as the ability to think logically and independently, to express oneself clearly and to apply theoretical knowledge to solve problems in real world situations. This course will encourage mathematical modelling, critical thinking and clear communication which are all key aptitudes that will serve our students well in their future lives. Mathematical exploration can sharpen the ability to sift through information and focus on what is relevant in order to develop strong analytical skills. A sound knowledge of mathematics and its applications is important in many areas of science, economics, medicine and engineering.

Students are expected to use their graphical calculator, the TI-Nspire CX II, as our mathematical modelling concepts and investigations make direct use of this technology. This will have been purchased for the Essential Mathematics course and is required for the IB Diploma in Grades 11 and 12.
