Courses:

RRHS Environment SHSM

Nine of your 30 credits for graduation need to support your SHSM sector:

  • 4 Environment Major Credits from the list below;
  • 2 Credits in English, including a learning activity related to Environment;
  • 1 Credit in Math, including a learning activity related to Environment;
  • 2 Credits in Cooperative Education in a setting related to Environment;

The following lists only the applicable courses that may be available to students at RRHS. Circumstances may arise where another course not on the list may count toward a student’s SHSM, with approval.

Major Credits -chosen from the list below

Must include at least one Grade 11 and one Grade 12 credit.

One credit may be substituted with a cooperative education credit (additional to the 2 required co-op credits)

Grade 11 Majors

Canadian and World Studies:

  • World History to the End of the 15th Century (CHW3M)
  • Understanding Canadian Law (CLU3M)

Business:

  • Information and Computer Technology: The Digital Environment (BTA3O)
  • Financial Accounting Fundamentals (BAF3M)

First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies:

  • World Views and Aspirations of First Nations (NBV3E or NBV3C)

Physical Education:

  • Healthy Active Living (PPL3O)
  • Outdoor Activities (PAD3O)

Science:

  • Biology (SBI3C or SBI3U)
  • Chemistry (SCH3U)
  • Environmental Science (SVN3E)
  • Physics (SPH3U)

Grade 12 Majors

Canadian and World Studies:

  • Canadian and International Law (CLN4U)

Business:

  • Financial Accounting Principles (BAT4M)
  • International Business Fundamentals (BBB4M)
  • Business Leadership (BOH4M)

First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies:

  • Issues of Indigenous Peoples in a Global Context (NDW4M)*

Physical Education:

  • Healthy Active Living (PPL4O)
  • Outdoor Activities (PAD4O)*
  • Introductory Kinesiology (PSK4U)

Science:

  • Chemistry (SCH4C or SCH4U)
  • Biology (SBI4U)
  • Science (SNC4E or SNC4M)
  • Physics (SPH4C or SPH4U)

Social Sciences and Humanities:

  • Philosophy: Questions and Theories (HZT4U)

*May be offered as dual credits (high school & college

Credits in English - Grade 11 and 12

Grade 11 and 12 English credits already required for graduation will fulfill this requirement.

This includes a CLA (contextualized Learning Activity) in conjunction with the course.

Credit in Math - Grade 11 or 12

Grade 11 Math credit already required for graduation will fulfill this requirement

This includes a CLA (contextualized Learning Activity) in conjunction with the course.

Credits in Cooperative Education

Can be completed in grade 11 and/or 12 as two single-credit placements or one double-credit placement.

Students who plan to enroll in SHSM may take summer coop in the summer before their grade 11 year, usually with GLC2O as the related course.
