TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

We are primarily an Apple/Mac-based degree program. All of our courses require quality bilingual Sign Language/English submissions. During the summers (on-campus classes), we provide a state-of-the-art 24/7 access to lab and filming studios with iMacs, loaner Canon EOS 60D cameras, tripods and professional light kits. We expect the same video quality during the online portion of the program – Fall and Spring semesters, so you are expected to obtain (or ensure access to) necessary equipment prior to starting the program.

ONLINE LEARNING

Technology changes at a very rapid pace! As graduate students in an online/hybrid program, you will learn that we are very dependent on technology for effective learning.

All of the online portions of our courses are asynchronous - this means there are no pre-set days/times or synchronized times where everyone must be online at the same time. Synchronized online work is not possible with everyone working different shifts and living in different time zones. Our online courses have deadlines such as Sunday nights or Friday nights at midnight Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Summer I: All courses are hybrid. We start online mid-May through mid-June, then everyone comes to campus for 5 weeks.

Fall/Spring: All courses are online. For students who want to take courses on campus, there are some courses that are available face-to-face. For more information for "local" students, please click on this link.

Summer II: All courses are hybrid. We start online mid-May through mid-June, then everyone comes to campus for 4 weeks.

Technology used in the program: Watch this video presentation below to learn about many different types of technology we use to promote effective learning in our online and hybrid classes. Practice those if you can, before you enter the program, so more time can be focused on learning the content, rather than also learning the technology.

TECHNOLOGY HELPDESK

We help fix equipment as well as assist with technology issues (e.g. want to connect your iPhone to the campus wifi?). We also loan equipment. Want to borrow a tripod? Light kit? A camcorder? Film yourself using Echo360 Studio?

Helpdesk's hours are 8 to 5 pm Monday through Friday in Hall Memorial Building (HMB) W121. Quite a bit can be done (or resolved) online, so check us out here.
