Darlene and John's Story

We met through mutual friends. I was at Ben & Jerry's in Georgetown eating ice cream with friends. We were discussing Homecoming and I was looking to ask someone. My friends threw different names at me. I didn't know who John was and my friends said he had ferrets (I had two at that time and was fascinated to find someone else who had ferrets!) After getting his email address from a friend, I asked him to Homecoming. This was in the old AOL days. He had no idea who I was and asked his roommate. It turns out his roommate was a biology major classmate of mine and knew me pretty well. You could say he "vouched" for me and John took a chance on me. We actually had our first date at the Pre-Homecoming bash the night before to break the ice and ended the night eating at IHOP. The rest is history. We've been together for 19 years, married for 13 years and have 3 children.
