Special Olympics 

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide sports training and athletic competition opportunities to persons eight years of age and older with an intellectual disability or a closely related developmental disability. 

YMCA Adaptive Sports Programs 

Adaptive sports programs at the Y provide children and adults with disabilities the chance to play sports and participate in learning opportunities in a safe, fun atmosphere. The Y, in partnership with The Miracle League, provides a chance to experience the joys and benefits that come from playing baseball. 

Best Buddies 

Offering One-to-One Friendship, Integrated Employment, and Leadership Development programs for individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Texas.

Coffeehouse Program at The Harris Center 

The Coffeehouse program is a peer-focused social skills and communication group training group for adults 18 years of age or older with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disability that reside in Harris County. The program facilitates employment and full community integration through increasing interpersonal communication, independence, and social skills.

Houston Museum of Natural Science 

Our goal is to make the Houston Museum of Natural Science accessible to all visitors. We are excited to offer specialized resources to support experiences for visitors with disabilities and their peers and families. Before coming to the museum, download and review our tips, guides, planners, and other resources to make your visit to HMNS more enjoyable for you and the whole family. 

Sailing Angels 

The Sailing Angels Foundation offers free sailing excursions on a daily basis for education, respite and recreational therapy. Originally serving individuals with cognitive challenges, physical challenges and life threatening illnesses, we have since expanded our reach to include those suffering from severe traumatic experiences and socially challenged children. 

K2 Academy - Adaptive Gymnastics 

The SOAR program was created to be all inclusive and provide a recreational outlet to children with neurological or physical disabilities. SOAR stands for Success and Opportunity Achieved through Recreation. This program allows children of all disabilities to participate in the sport of gymnastics as an individual or in a group setting. 

Miller Outdoor Theatre 

Houston’s Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park is unique in the United States, offering an eight-month season of professional entertainment that is artistically excellent, culturally diverse and always FREE of charge to the public. This is the largest “always free” program of its kind in the country. 

City of Houston Adaptive Sports & Recreation 

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Adaptive Sports and Recreation section is headquartered at Metropolitan Multi-Service Center (MMSC) at West Gray. Adaptive Sports and Recreation offers a variety of recreational, sporting, and quality of life programming for people with differing abilities. 

Inspiring Possibilities 

To address the urgent need for programs in our community, Inspiring Possibilities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, combines adaptive Martial Arts with components of physical fitness, occupational and physical therapy, and social-emotional health. These are the kinds of services that Texans are waiting for. 

ReelAbilities Houston 

The ReelAbilities Houston Film & Arts Festival promotes inclusion and celebrates the lives, stories and talents of people with disabilities, making an impact that lasts far beyond the Festival. 

Star Skaters 

Providing an on-ice experience for individuals with disabilities. 

Studio Movie Grill 

A pillar of SMG’s Outreach since 2003, our Special Needs Screenings are designed for families raising children with special needs. Special Needs Screenings are shown with the lights up and the volume lowered and children are free to move around, talk, or even dance in the aisles during the movie. The sensory friendly screenings are free for children with special needs and their siblings. Adult tickets are available at before-noon price. Showtimes can vary by location. Parental guidance is suggested. 

AMC Theaters - Sensory Friendly Films 

We turn the lights up and the sound down, so you can feel free to be you at these unique showings for people living with autism or other special needs. 

Space Center Houston - Sensory Friendly Events 

Space Center Houston invites people of all ages who experience conditions such as, but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder and sensory processing disorder, to explore science and space exploration in a reduced sensory environment. 

Morgan's Wonderland 

Morgan’s Wonderland is the world’s first theme park designed with individuals with special needs in mind. Guided by its mission of inclusion, the park strives to bring together guests of all ages and all abilities through the power of inclusive play. 

Playgrounds without Limits 

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department has 232 playgrounds and 27 spraygrounds located in parks across the city. This includes six playgrounds that are accessible to children and families of all abilities can play together, regardless of abilities located throughout the system. 

Houston Ballet 

Houston Ballet's Sensory-Friendly performances are modified for audience members with neurological differences. Trained volunteers staff the event to ensure a positive experience for all. Each production includes pre and post-performance interactive activities and an opportunity to meet the cast! 

Texas Adaptive Aquatics 

T.A.A. founded in 1989 and incorporated in the State of Texas in 1990, is a non-profit sports training program for children and adults with disabilities. T.A.A. features an outstanding adaptive water skiing program that allows people with physical and/or mental disabilities the opportunity to discover the thrill and excitement of water skiing, sailing, and kayaking.
