The Alief ISD 18+ program serves students receiving special education services who are at least 18 years of age.
The adult students have met their state credit and assessment requirements. However, they have not met one of the additional graduation criteria. The student must also achieve:
Full-time employment, based on the student's abilities and local employment opportunities, in addition to mastering sufficient self-help skills to enable the student to maintain the employment without direct and ongoing educational support of the local school district.
Demonstrated mastery of specific employability skills and self-help skills that do not require direct ongoing educational support of the local school district.
Access to services or other supports that are not within the legal responsibility of public education, including employment or postsecondary education established through transition planning.
The adult student must also no longer have an educational need and have completed their IEP.
The program is non-traditional in that the adult students do not follow a bell schedule or participate in “academic” class periods.
The adult student’s schedule is based on their postsecondary goals that will help best prepare them for their life after school.
