Math

Dice Activities: Students will play games that involve a die. They must play at least two of the games each day.

If you do not have a dice at home, you have the following options:

Roll and Compare

Activity Goal: To see whose value is greater or less.
Materials: DiceOptional Materials: Pencil and Paper
Directions:
  1. Player 1 will roll the dice. Then state how many dots on are the dice.
  2. Player 2 will repeat the same directions as Player 1.
  3. Then both players will compare whose value is greater.
Optional: If player is having difficulty, then use paper to record.
  1. Repeat the same process.
  2. Total Time: At least 5 minutes

Challenges:
  • A. Players will roll the dice twice and add up all of the total.
  • B. Players will roll the dice three times and add up all of the total.
*If choosing any of the challenges, have paper and pencil in case. :)

Shape Fill In

Activity Goal: Add up numbers
Materials: Dice, Two Different Coloring materials, and Recording Template
Directions:
  1. Player 1 and Player 2 will choose two different coloring materials.
  2. Player 1 will roll the dice. Then color in that number on the template. It does not matter the order of which squares need to be filled in, it just needs to have the exact number.
  3. Player 2 will repeat the same directions as Player 1.
  4. Both players will continue back and forth until the template has been filled.
  5. Each player needs to count their own colored squares and share their total, to see who has the greatest total.
  6. Need to complete at least one template.

Race to 20

Activity Goal: Count Accurately
Materials: Dice, Two different objects, and a "paper mat"
Directions:
  1. Player 1 and Player 2 will each choose an object. They both will start on zero.
  2. Player 1 will roll the dice. Then move to the number rolled, saying out loud each number the object is on (refer to video).
  3. Player 2 will repeat the same process as Player 1.
  4. Repeat this process until someone has reached number 20. *It is okay if the number exceeds 20.
  5. Play at least two rounds.

Phonics

Make & Read Sight Word Flash Cards

Activity Goal: Students use flashcards to memorize Sight Words

Directions:

  1. Use the Sight Word lists below to create Sight Word Flashcards (Please start with List A )

  2. You will need 2 sets for the memory game and future games ... each word needs 2 cards.

  3. Cut Blank paper to make 50 similar sized cards or use index cards if available.

  4. Write each sight word per card.

  5. PLEASE save these cards since we will be using them throughout the weeks. *A sandwich zip-lock works nicely for safe keeping.

Read & Make a Sentence #1

Daily

  1. Student will read each word out loud from their bag of flashcards.

  2. Once they read it they will start to line them up and read them again from the bottom up.

  3. After they read each one they can make a sentence with some of the words.

  4. After they read them on their own they can read them to a family member that can help correct mistakes.

Memory #2

Daily

  1. Place the cards upside down on floor or table.

  2. Player 1 turns two cards over and reads words on each card. Make sure each player can see the words.

*Remember to place cards back in their original spot.

  1. If the words match they keep them. If they don't, then flip cards back over.

  2. Next player does the same to see if they can find a match.

  3. Take turns until all cards are matched.

Writing

Make a Pattern Book with a Surprise Ending!!!

Activity Goal: Students use sight words to write their own pattern books.

Directions:

1) Cut three blank papers in half. Staple at the top and bottom on the left side of the paper to make a book.

2) Students choose a topic.

Examples: Animals, Family, Food, School, Games, Sports, Etc.

3) Students create a pattern sentence using the sight word list (listed above from Activity 2: Phonics).

Examples: "I like ...", "I see ...", "We can ...", "I like see ...", "We like to play ...", "We like to eat ...", etc.

4) Before writing, students will say out loud what they will be writing on each page.

5) Students will write the pattern sentence on each page, making sure the picture matches with the sentence.

6) Students will write an ending that could have a big change or a new feeling on the last page.

7) When finished, students will read their books out loud to a family member.

8) Students will make at least one pattern book a day

Reading

Super Reader Chant

Activity Goal: To activate students brains and turn on their Super Reading powers!

Directions: Students say the chant as a warm-up before their reading.

Remember there are so many things to read. You can read all day long with your Pointer Power at school or home because we all agree its our favorite thing to do!

Reading is a lot of fun in Kindergarten!!! Our students have become SUPER READERS by using their superpowers to become better readers. Below you will see the strategies your child has learned to check their reading to make sure that it sounds right, looks right and makes sense?

Read for at least 20 Minutes every day.

Reading Tools To Use

Activity Goal: I can use my Super Reading Powers to look, point and read everything!

Directions: Choose as many books as you would like to read. Make a stack of books in order of how you want to read them. Then get to reading!

Remember to use these powers as you read to help you understand the story! Don't forget to tell a family member what your book was about when you finish reading.

We heard some families were starting to run out of books at home. This website provides online books for free, including some word family games that we have been practicing.
