Hi All,
Despite the rain, I am hoping that this weekend brought the opportunity for you to get some rest and relaxation. I want to kick this week off by sharing the above quote about joy. This quote came to mind after a profound interaction that I had the other day with Ms. Molly Strong. I was making my rounds through the building when I heard some belly laughing going on near the front office. I went to go check out what was going on and I came across a group of ladies who were laughing so hard they cried. They shared that while running an errand for her classroom, Ms. Strong did some dancing that really tickled the group. I was told that I really missed a pretty good performance. Later when I ran into Molly, I teased her by saying that I had heard that I had missed the entertainment, then she shared something that really stuck with me. She told me that she dances, laughs, and smiles as much as she can because others may depend on her for that. She told me that she tries to to find joy in everything that she does because it can help to make the daily tasks of life so much brighter. I smiled and wished her a good day...but through her comments, she had made MY day brighter. I also wondered how many other people need to hear that same thing? Who else needs to be reminded to "dance"? Who else needs help in finding the joy everyday. Finding joy is an ongoing job. It is something that has to be purposefully done. Here are some tips to take into this week to help you to find and keep your joy.
Stop waiting to be happy.
Add happiness to your life, right now.
Make self-care part of your routine.
Get in a joyful state of mind.
Stop worrying.
Appreciate the small things.
Surround yourself with positive people.
Laugh more.
Love more.
Find joy through a bucket list.
Plan for joy.

Here's to a successful and JOYFUL week of teaching and learning!
Let's remain SAFE, SOLUTION-FOCUSED, and SANE.

We are STRONGER TOGETHER!

COVID Update
Just a reminder, we are asking all LMS staff to make sure that you are following the COVID prevention guidelines that we have in place. If you do so, you can help us to keep our school healthy and safe and REDUCE the number of individuals who need to be quarantined. I want to keep our school as safe as possible and I need your help! Please help with this by 1) not gathering, unless necessary to do so (and you're able to socially distance), 2) remaining at home if you're sick or waiting for testing results, 3) communicating to us as soon as you are aware of any COVID related health concern, 4) wearing your mask properly throughout the day, 5) maintaining a safe distance from others as you go through the day.
The QPTS helps to keep us grounded in our instructional practices. For more information, resources, articles, and tools, please click on the "Quality Plus Instructional Strategies link embedded within the "Teacher Resources Heading on the portal.
Concurrent instruction presents the opportunity to recreate new ways to facilitate collaborative instruction. Read on to see this edition which models how to differentiate learning through a Jigsaw strategy with a focus on collaboration, literacy, and summarizing. Check out how responsible decision making helps students consider the problem they face, explore the options they might select, and think about potential outcomes their choices lead to.
Let's shine the spotlight on those who are going above and beyond the call of duty!
Congratulations to Ms. Arroyo! She will be presenting at the Georgia Mathematics Equity Summit to math teachers from across the state of GA. Kudos to you, Ms. Arroyo!
New Items are in Bold
NEW:
Early Release Conferences
Thank you for your professionalism and collaboration with parents during our recent Early Release conferences. We were able to make many connections with parents and develop a plan to help some of our struggling students.
The Synergy Parent mobile app, ParentVUE, is now available for use.
The app is available in the Apple App Store, as well as the Google Play Store. It will allow parents, who have a parent portal account, to view schedules, grades, see when assignments are due, view graduation requirements, find missing assignments, and view other important student information. An active parent portal account is required to log in to ParentVUE.
Seating Charts
In Synergy, teachers have the ability to create a seating chart for each class. The seating chart can be printed by the teacher in Synergy TeacherVUE or by administrative staff in Synergy SIS using report STU419. Instructions are included in the TeacherVUE or SIS – Printing Seating Charts attachment.
Gallup Survey
Today is the last day to complete your Gallup Q12 Employee Participation Survey. Please take care of this quick survey today
Students Returning
We have identified over 300 students who would benefit the most from returning to the building. About 50% of our students elected to remain at home. As of 10/23/20, we have had 117 students to return to the building because of their Q1 performance. Several of you are still making requests for additional students to return, which is understandable given the performance of many students. We are currently working with grade level admin on a case-by case basis for inviting any additional students back to the building. If a student is struggling and will remain digital, please continue to work with them on a plan for mastery from home.
PRIOR WEEK'S REMINDERS:
Mustang Mastery Intervention Program:
Lilburn Middle School is excited to have the opportunity to provide interventions for students who have excessive NTI’s, gifted learners, and students who struggle to demonstrate mastery. Students with different learning needs require different intervention approaches, so this intervention program will be targeted to support the needs of learners at Lilburn Middle School. There will be three different options offered as follows:
Mustang Mastery Math/ELA Remediation: Students who require skill development in the areas of ELA and MA require direct instruction in the areas of their skill deficit.
Mustang Mastery Gifted Learner Skill Development: Gifted learners need explicit instruction in the skills needed to tackle more rigorous tasks and apply their learning in new and different ways.
Mustang Mastery Academic Assistance/Study Skills: Learners who have excessive NTIs on major assignments that result in a negatively impacted grade. These students have demonstrated standard proficiency, but struggle with work completion. They can use this opportunity to obtain assistance in completing those outstanding assignments.
Please begin to identify students who could benefit from the program. Make your recommendations to your administrators by indicating this recommendation on your failure report. As discussed in CLT last Tuesday, completed failure reports are due to your grade level admin by October 7th.
If you are interested in teaching a section of the Mustang Mastery Program, please complete an application. Teacher selection will begin soon. Applications are due on October 9, 2020. Notification of selection will be made as soon as possible. The application can be found at the link below.

Links to School/Department/Academy Meetings
Some of us were having trouble with finding the links for meetings that we needed to attend. To help with this, admin has now worked to include these links on the calendar. If you have a meeting, check the calendar and you will be able to get to the link by clicking on the event and the link can be found by going to the event description.
Lost Keys
Losing your assigned keys brings a security risk to the school and an added expense. Please be aware that there is a $15 fee to replace each key that you lose. You will need to let Mrs. Markitan know if you need to discuss a lost key.
Dress Code
Please remind student of our school dress code that is in place. If students are out of dress code, please remind them of the appropriate dress code and follow through the disciplinary process.
Now that students are back in the building, we return to our professional dress. All LMS staff should adhere to the school dress code policy that is outlined in the Staff Handbook. This includes making sure that clothing are the appropriate length, transparency, and fit and that professional attire is worn each day. Spirit wear may be worn with jeans on Fridays. This includes "LMS" or "Mustang" specific clothing, not just clothing that is within school colors.
Morning arrival
To ensure that we have adequate supervision, teachers should plan to be at their door greeting students. This can be done safely by reminding students to use the directional traffic flow and by keeping a safe distance as students arrive.
HR Compliance
If you have not completed your HR Compliance videos, LMS Sign-Off, and Safety Awareness Training, please complete these required tasks ASAP.
