This week's schedule:
July 29 - August 2
Please download Strava and join the Collins Hill XC Club. Set up your profile so that only your followers can see your activity. This will enable us to track your summer mileage automatically.
Notice a shakeup in dates and locations!! I am back at school and have meetings every day. Please make sure you have a ride at the end time!
Schedule (click on the park names for directions):
Monday: run on your own -- NO group practice -- I have meetings! :)
Tuesday: 7:30-9:00am -- Rabbit Hill Park (meet at the pavilion by the dog park and soccer fields!) Map HERE.
Wednesday: 7:30-9:00am -- Collins Hill Park (basketball side -- meet at the XC trail, 2nd parking lot up)
This practice is MANDATORY -- we will do 1st time trials. I need to see EVERYONE there if you are in town, and must get a message if you will not be there. Work out carpools if transportation is a problem.
Thursday: on your own. This is meet the teacher day -- come see me in B106!
Friday: 7:30-9:00am -- Collins Hill Park (basketball side -- meet at the XC trail, 2nd parking lot up)
Next week is the first week of school! We will start regular practices next Monday! Our practices are Monday through Friday, 2:30-4:00. Our first meet is August 17 so every day is important!!
PLEASE make sure you have signed up for Remind so I can alert you to any changes due to weather or other factors. We WILL run in rain, but not in the lightning!!
Please make sure you are on time, especially for the long runs on Thursdays. You may miss us and be unable to find us if you aren't on time!
Please make sure you have Rank One complete! Most of the ones I haven't seen over the summer show as NOT complete. Even if your physical is still valid, you need to fill out the rest of the forms!
Here is what you NEED for these days:
GOOD running shoes. That means they can not be basketball, cross training, soccer, etc. This will be your biggest investment but is ABSOLUTELY worth it. If you ran track or have been running for a while or don't remember when you bought the shoes, please go get new ones. Shoes have a lifetime of 300-350 miles and by the time you realize you should have replaced them, you may be badly injured. If you don't know what to look for, please go see Big Peach Running or Fleet Feet -- both will help you choose the right shoes for your feet. Tell them you run with us and they will give you a discount too!
Breathable clothing. It gets hot, even at 7:30, and you don't want to get overheated.
A LARGE reusable bottle with your name on it. There are water fillers at these parks and we will have bottles if not...but if you bring a plastic bottle and throw it out you will have nothing to refill and won't drink enough. Plus...you will have to listen to me lecture you about killing the earth. :)
Your phone, so you can reach parents, though most times that will be in my car as you run unless there is a reason to hold it. It changes your gait to hold a phone so unless there is a real reason (like you are running in an unfamiliar place or without a big enough group) I will ask you to lock it up. If you don't have a phone, please give your parents this number: 678-390-3192. That is my Google Voice number and I always carry my phone.
Your completed rank one...which will be on your phone.
The willingness to learn. That's it! We love teaching new runners how to run right.
