Dashboards

Actions

Using actions would bring interactivity to the dashboards and help the user to customize the visualization and glean a better insight. There are several actions defined in the Tableau Desktop:

  • Filter: Use the data from one view to filter data in another to help guide analysis.

  • Highlight: Call attention to marks of interest by coloring specific marks and dimming all others.

  • Change Parameter: Let users change parameter values by directly interacting with marks on a viz.

  • Change Set Values: Let users change the values in a set by directly interacting with marks on a viz.

Filter

In order to enable to the filter action, go to Sheet 1 and in the Markers section click on County Set, that contained the selection of counties of Greenville, Pickens, Anderson, and Oconee, and choose Show Filter to enable filter action:

When this action is setup successfully, you should see this menu to choose counties in the right side of the main pane as.

As a result, the filter action is enabled and users are able to choose whatever county they want to see in the final visualization.

Highlight

In order to enable highlight action, go to Sheet 1 and in the Markers section, click on Forecast indicator and choose Show Highlighter in order to give users ability to highlight the actual data and forecast separately for better comparison:

After successful setup of the highlight action, you should see the option to switch between the actual and forecasted data as.

As a result, now users have ability to highlight the actual and forecasted data separately.

Change Parameter

In order to enable change parameter action, click on Moving Averages Type parameter that is defined in the previous sections, and choose Show Parameter:

If change parameter action is enabled successfully, you should be able to see it in the right side of the main pane:
