You need a total of 29 Credits to graduate.
If you take a full 4-years of classes in High School, you have the opportunity to earn 32 credits. This gives you a very small "buffer zone," in case you don't pass a class.
Research has shown that the best predictors of on-time graduation are 1- good school attendance and 2- passing classes in the 9th grade.
Cashmere High School has graduation requirements that are based on the minimum state requirements, as well as requirements determined by the Cashmere School District. Here are those credits.
4.0 English
3.0 Math - include Algebra, Geometry, and an additional high school level math class
3.0 Science - with 2 of those credits being a "lab-based" science credit
3.0 Social Studies - includes US History (1.0), Current World Problems (1.0) , Civics (.5), Social Studies Elective (.5) and Washington State History (.5) if not taken and passsed in Middle School
2.0 Fine Arts
2.5 Career and Technical Education (CTE)
.5 Health
2.0 Physical Education
2.0 World Language (or 2.0 Credits from your Personal Pathway choice)
7.0 Electives
= total of 29 credits
What happens if I fail a class that is required for high school graduation?
If you fail a class that is required, you will meet with a counselor, your parent and possibly an administrator.
Options then include:
*Drop an elective class the next semester and retake the same class (possibly with the same teacher)
*Have "extended school year" and finish the class in the summer
*Retake the entire class the next year (Example: You are a 10th grader in 9th Grade English)
*Take a different class to fulfill the same credit
* The last resort - take an online credit-retrieval class in addition to your other requirements
Additionally, you are required to complete 24 Community Service hours during high school and to document those hours before graduation.
You will be informed of Community Service opportunities throughout the year. It is recommended that you complete 6 hours per year for a total of 24 hours.
In the 8th grade you will start your High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) This is a Washington State requirement for graduation and is a fun way to keep track of your interests.
The HSBP is used to guide your high school experience and prepare you for continued education after high school or for job training and/or a career. This plan should be updated each year, from grades 8-12, to:
*reflect your academic progress through a review of your high school transcript,
*document accomplishments and activities, and
*assess progress toward identified goals and make adjustments if needed.
