Letter Grades!
In grades K-6, you were graded on a scale of 1-4, as a part of Standards Based Grading. However, in 7th and 8th grades, and again in grades 9-12, you will recieve letter grades.
Your letter grades in high school are based on the percentage or score you earn on assignments and tests.
Some teachers grade tests as more "heavily weighted," or more important to your overall grade than your assignments. Your teacher will tell you how they grade and will post their grading policies on their classroom wall.
Here is an example of letter grades that you can earn in high school, based on the percentages you earn in a class:
A 93-100%
A- 90-92.99%
B+ 87-89.99%
B 83-86.99%
B- 80-82.99%
C+ 77-79%
C 73-76.99%
C- 70-72.99%
D+ 67-69.99%
D 60-66.99%
F 0-59.99% (F Grades do not earn high school credit toward graduation - see the High School Credits tab on this webpage!)
What is a Grade Point Average, also known as GPA?
Some high school classes give final grades at the end of a Term, and some high school classes give final grades at the end of a Semester.*
(*See the tab for High School Class Schedules to learn more about Terms, Semesters and Final Grades!)
When you get a final grade in a class, that letter is assigned a numeric value for the purpose of calculating your Grade Point Average, or GPA. Your high school GPA is often asked for when you apply for a job or a scholarship, and is always asked for when you apply to a college or trade school.
Here are the numeric values for the grades you will earn at Cashmere High School:
A 4.0 B+ 3.3 C+ 2.3 D+ 1.3 F 0.0
A- 3.7 B 3.0 C 2.0 D 1.0
B- 2.7 C- 1.7
