STEM

Why STEM?

I have chosen to apply for Graduation with distinction in STEM because STEM is my primary educational focus. I have taken nearly every math class that it has been available to me. I skipped Math 1 and took Math 2, Math 3 and Advanced Math all my freshman year. My junior year I took not just one, but two AP math classes; AP Calc AB and AP Stats which I passed with a 5 and a 3 respectively. AP Stats is especially meaningful because I took it as an independent study rather than as a class and therefore had to teach myself most of the coursework. This year I am taking BC Calc by myself and continuing to pursue math above every other person in the class of 2023. As for science, I will have taken all the required courses plus four elective sciences; Chem 1A, Physics 1A, Physics 1B, Physics 1C. The unique thing about all three of my physics classes is that they were each independent study courses show that I was interested in pursuing science so much that I was willing to take an independent option when the class was not able to be offered. Additionally I have taken part in Scholars Bowl and Math League. I have been a part of math league all four years but this year I am the sole member of the math league but continue to pursue it anyway. I have constantly shown a love for STEM and that is why I am applying for Graduation with Distinction in STEM.
