Career Readiness

Why Career Readiness?

I chose to apply for this graduation with distinction because I feel that I have met the philosophy of this distinction even better then if I were to have attended a tech center. This past summer I worked two jobs and had and additional internship. The first of this is that I am a red cross certified lifeguard (picture below) at Smugglers Notch. I have taken part in this job continuously since the summer I was 15 and since I have a Red Cross Certification this meets the requirement of "Industry recognized Credentials". My second job was me working as and IT assistant for the FWSU School District over the summer. Working as an IT assistant gave me in introduction into a potential computer based career. For my internship, I worked for BETA Technologies, the world leading company in electric aircraft. At BETA I got to work with each of the different teams and contribute to the design and creating of pioneering electric aircraft. Again, like my IT job, working at BETA prepared e for a future career in this industry (especially if I chose to work for BETA). My internship at BETA was first hand experience in a field that no tech center would have available to me at the same level as my internship. This further supports my decision to prepare for a potential career in a method other than by attending a tech center. As an additional reason I chose prepare for a career in a different way, by taking the route that I took, I allowed myself MANY possible career paths where as by attending a tech center I would have to be more focused on one. I feel that I have demonstrated "thoughtful preparation ... for a potential carrer" and therefor am a worthy applicant of this distinction.
