"Boy Meets World" is an American television sitcom that chronicles the coming of age events and everyday life lessons of Cornelius "Cory" Matthews. The show follows Cory and his friends and family through seven seasons, from his elementary school days to his life as a married man. He goes through his life learning lessons, making memories, making the most of his time with those he loves, and passing it along to his kids, Riley and Auggie, in the spin-off, "Girl Meets World."
"Boy Meets World" teaches us so many things as we grow up; some characters even relate to us, as we do them. What lessons do you ask? Take a look:
No two families are the same, and you make your own. Shawn’s (Rider Strong, aka Cory’s Best Friend) homelife was difficult for him, and his family was no better. As he grew older, he realized his family and homelife didn’t define him, and he could make his own.
Even true love has its struggles. Cory and Topanga have been together since they were in diapers. As they got older, their feelings towards each other grew stronger, but even in the greatest relationships, their path had some milestones. At first, Cory didn’t know how to tell Topanga he loved her until Shawn helped them. When they were married, Cory thought Topanga had better success then he did. But no matter what they faced, they faced it together, and made it through.
Everyone has their own path. Everyone has their own path to follow, and some have to find theirs. From Cory and Topanga’s early-in-life wedding to Shawn’s search for purpose and even Eric’s (Will Friedle, aka Cory’s Brother) hard-to-follow journey, "Boy Meets World" is all about finding your own way and supporting one another no matter what.
Respect your elders (they really do know more than you). We never would’ve made it this far without the help from our elders. Whether it’d be our parents, guardians, teachers, or mentors, even an elderly person, with age comes wisdom in them all. In the show, whenever the kids had some trouble going through life, they always sought help from their teacher, Mr. Feeny (William Daniels), or Cory’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matthews (William Russ, Betsy Randle).
You never really have to grow up. Yes, a great majority of us tend to become more serious when we mature. But that doesn’t mean we really have to grow up. It’s okay to keep the child inside you alive. Take it from Eric. Even in the most serious of situations, he’s always managed to keep a smile on his face and make people smile with his childish ways.
Believe in yourself. Dream. Try. Do good. We don’t know what the future holds for us as we go, and life will throw curve balls at us. But as long as we keep our heads up high, be optimistic, have a sense of humor, and carry on one day at a time, we’ll make it through no problem. In all-around situations, each and every one of the characters made their own paths, supported each other, and followed dreams. Cory and Topanga set off to New York City, where Topanga became a successful lawyer, and Cory became his daughter’s History teacher in "Girl Meets World." All while Shawn set off all over the world as a writer, and even a photographer.
Employee of The Month
Mrs. Beam
By: Stella Bock and Autumn Meadows
Mrs. Beam, Poston Butte’s receptionist, has earned Employee of the Month for January.
Mrs. Beam has definitely earned Employee of the Month. She is one of the reasons why Poston Butte is such a welcoming community. Mrs. Beam was born in Southern California. She is the oldest of her 5 siblings on her mother’s side, and she has 18 brothers and sisters on her dad's side; the oldest being in their 70s and the youngest being in their 30s. She's somewhere in the middle. She was also raised Bilingual, speaking fluently in both Spanish and English. She attended two years of community college before spending two more years in court reporting school. After that, she got married and now has 3 wonderful daughters. Mrs. Beam started her years in education working as a teacher aide in California. In 2007, she moved to San Tan Valley, Arizona, and the rest is history.
On her own time, Mrs. Beam loves many things; one of them is traveling. Mrs. Beam has traveled to what she calls a “few” countries, and what I call a lot of countries. Mrs. Beam has been to El Salvador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, Australia, Spain, and finally, France. Mrs. Beam also has hobbies that don’t cost as much as a plane ticket like hiking for the beautiful nature views, attending family events, and traveling with close friends and family. Her favorite things to do outside of school are entertainment related; she loves attending musicals, plays, and of course movies at the movie theater.
“Don’t wait for other people to be happy for you. Any happiness you get, you’ve got to make it yourself.” Alice Walker This is exactly what Mrs. Beam has done with her life. She has made her own happiness by doing things that make her happy. What makes her the happiest and proudest are her 3 daughters, her marriage, and both sides of her marriage.
Mrs.Dowell
By: Stella Bock and Autumn Meadows
Mrs. Dowell, a Poston Butte English teacher, has earned Employee of the Month for January.
Mrs. Dowell is a 12th grade English teacher here at Poston Butte High School. She was born in Wisconsin, but she has lived here in San Tan Valley for 5 years. Mrs. Dowell’s marriage is going on 18 years, and they have two teenage kids, two irritating dogs, and one adopted cat.
When it comes to those irritating dogs and adopted cat, Mrs. Dowell always has it down; she worked as a Veterinary Technician for two years. A Veterinary Technician is kinda like the nurse that comes in before the doctor, just for animals. Speaking of animals, our favorite Mouse; Mickey Mouse, is somewhere (hidden) in all 5 tattoos she has. If you ever plan on going to Disney World, you’ll have to ask Mrs. Dowell. She is the biggest Disney fan I know. She has been to Disney World 4 times.
She may have been a Veterinary Technician, but the things Mrs. Dowell is most proud of are her two kids who she loves dearly. Outside of school, and Disney world, she loves reading books. I mean who doesn’t? Reading books and crocheting are just some of the things Mrs. Dowell likes to do outside of her fun-filled life.
As for her school life, Mrs. Dowell has been in education since 1998, and she has been working at Poston Butte for 3 years now. She really enjoys her time here. She loves to work with both the students and faculty. She believes every day is full of fun at Poston, and I for one agree. If Mrs. Dowell wasn’t here, she would see herself writing curriculums and teaching future educators. Mrs. Dowell is a caring person who loves to help others grow; she loves to share her magic with others. “Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic.” Albus Dumbledore I would definitely say that Mrs. Dowell is full of magic.
