The Glee Club is one of Poston’s newest clubs, welcoming any student who takes an interest in performing arts. As it's the club's first year, they are currently creating big ideas to bring to the stage this year.
Glee club president Neveah McKee says Glee is a “music space for people to feel like they have a second family.” She wants the club to feel like a safe space for anyone who wants to meet new people or just have fun. You don’t have to be an expert to join Glee. Other members or executives will be happy to help you find your voice. Glee Club member Ashton Brinton says, “My friend was very confident I could get a lead position. She was right, and I just stuck with it after that”.
The future for Glee is bright with plans of performances, fundraisers, and more. Due to the Christmas season, they are preparing to step into the holiday joy with a hot coca fundraiser. After that, they are planning to volunteer at the Children’s hospital and sing for the kids during the holiday season.
Vice President Serena Barnickel says, “Me and Neveah just really love singing.” With prior experience in theater, she finds that the most important thing in Glee is friendship. You don’t need to look far to meet new people if you decide to join Glee. They bring many friendly faces and hopefully help you find a second home.
Coming to Glee Club is a great opportunity to find something new. If you're looking to come out of your comfort zone, you’ll find the right place in Glee. You don’t have to be great at singing to join, anything in the performing arts will be accepted. Take a chance and not only will you have new experiences, you will also gain something extra in life you can think about and laugh at the memories.
With big plans comes big costs, so they are still looking for available funding. They currently have a Living Tree page. If you have any further questions please contact: Phatch@fusdaz.org or lbarrett@fusdaz.org

Team members - Jasmine Castaneda, Addison Cluff, Destiny Duerson, Aolani Motu, Merceydi McCann, Payton Thompson, Mya Colon Rivera, Abby Kern, Nina Bongiovanni, Breyanah Olague, Alex Gaitan, Bella Edwards, Brooke Smith, Heaven Saycon, Kinsey Almanza, Mia Montes, Rylli Sample, Claire Hardison
Poston Butte volleyball girls started off their season strong with a win of 3 sets to 0 against Marcos De Niza following Jv and Freshman wins creating their first sweep of the season. However, in the next 5 games, they did not do as well, suffering heavy losses from various schools including Youngkers, Seton, Mesquite, ALA QC, and St. Marys. On September 16th, 2021 the girl’s varsity volleyball team made a comeback winning against Combs with 3 sets to 0 once more defeating their foes. Their next game was not so good seeing they had lost against Saguaro 3-0, but quickly redeemed themselves, winning the next 8 games beating AJ twice as well as Combs, Cortez, and Coronado. Like many great things in life, everything must come to an end at some point. On October 21st, 2021 the seniors played the last regular season home game of their high school career playing Coronado and defeating them 3-0 leaving the seniors with a special win in their hearts. The team would like to give a special thank you to Jasmine Castaneda, Destiny Duerson, Merceydi McCann, Payton Thompson, Mya Colon, Abby Kern, Nina Bongiovanni, and Alex Gaitan for always keeping everyone’s spirits up and to never giving up when times were tough.
A word from Ms. Quesada : “Thank you girls for bringing back our sisterhood and being leaders to our underclassmen and providing a path of success for them.”

Just like their upperclassmen, the JV volleyball program started their season with a win against Marcos De Niza and their next game against Youngkers, but did not include Seton in their winning streak losing 2-0 as well as losing to Mesquite and ALA QC. The next two games against St Mary’s and Combs were amazing, winning 2 sets to 0 at both of them. Although they had won the two previous games, the same could not be said about the game against Saguaro. They lost 2 - 0, but in each set, they were very close. In the first set, they lost by 4 points and in the second set, they lost only by 2. However, their game against AJ was a turning point. After that game, they won 9 games in a row, leaving the season with a winning streak.
Freshman-
Coach-Mary Noah
Team members- Claudia Chapman, Yetzeli Zuniga, Jazmin Aguirre, Kara Child, Celeste Clark, Zuleimie Correa-Ortiz, Amaya Gonzales, Miranda Gottron, Kyra Gowin, Lauren Hansen, Mellony Matus, Valeria Mendoza Galindo, Aylin Montes, Mary-Lee Needham, Kaylie Sanchez, and Autumn Thomas.
The freshmen Lady Broncos had started off the season strong with a streak of 4 wins playing Marcos De Niza, Youngker, Seton, and Mesquite. However, as a strange coincidence, the next 4 games weren't done as well since they were in a slump losing 4 games in a row against ALA QC, St Mary’s, Combs, and Saguaro. But, the freshman had enough determination and continued to fight even when feeling down. Because of this, they finished the season by winning the rest of the games that included beating Combs to show that they aren't afraid of anything. They learned that you cannot succeed on your own, but that you need to work together in order to truly win and because of that mindset they had beat AJ twice as well as Cortez, Coronado, and Vista Grande. The ladies truly redeemed themselves with Poston Butte’s pinkout game beating Combs 2 sets to 0. We would like to wish good luck to everyone freshmen on the team and we look forward to seeing what you accomplish in the next four years of your life.

On September 23, 2021, an event at Poston Butte High school called Lunch with the Sheriff took place. Nominated students following the Bronco's STRONG expectations had lunch with Sheriff Lamb. Mr. Lamb answered any questions these students had, from what made him want to become a sheriff to having ever dealt with a serious crime. The culinary class made a wonderful lunch, sandwiches, and cookies. It was an enjoyable time, especially the fact that students got out of class. Some of the questions Mr. Lamb answered were the following:
Student: “What are some challenges you have faced in life and how have you defeated them?”
Mr. Lamb: “The fact that we are all here means we have a 100% survival rate of everything you go through in life, whether you think you’ve survived it or not, you're here and that means you’ve survived it. Life has not been kind to me in many ways and in many ways it has. I’ve gotten the crap kicked out of me in life, I’ve been through bankruptcy, repossessed vehicles; I've had failed and successful businesses. Here's the thing about life, and I'll tell you and I tell all my kids this: You're not special. The reason I say this is because if you believe you're special and life kicks you in the face, which it will, you think there's something wrong with you, but that’s life, life is designed to be challenging for everybody. When you think you're special and you do something wrong, it can create depression and anxiety. What you are is unique to each and every one of you. I know this because every single one of you, even the twin sisters have different fingerprints, different DNA, and irises. Everything about all of you is 100% different. That means every single person on this Earth is individually more unique. Being unique is better than being special. Don't think of yourself as special because life is going to give you a lot of challenges. You will all be surprised with yourselves by how strong and resilient you are. Let's hope that life doesn't test that but if it does it’ll make you stronger. So don't be afraid and wear your scars with pride.”
Student: “How do you justify holding a super spreader event in the height of a pandemic while running unopposed when the seat you hold is to protect the public?”
Mr. Lamb: “I would challenge you guys to challenge the narrative. The fact is the statistics don't support super spreader events. Actually, I did hold a super spreader event, and we had 600 people come, I think over three hundred of those people were tested and every single one of them tested negative. I was numbered patient zero because I got COVID. I went to the White House for an event. It was about four days after I had an event, and I found out I had covid. So obviously somebody gave it to me. But I challenge you guys to not listen to what the media is telling you. The media will tell you this but the statistics don't support it. Go to the CDC and look at the statistics yourself, dig into it ‘cuz you're going to see a whole different story. “
Student: “Did you always see yourself being in law enforcement?”
Mr. Lamb: “Never. I never wanted to be a cop. I was 30 years old, and I did a ride-along with the neighbor and I loved it. I came home, and I told my wife I wanted to be a cop. I found a passion in in law enforcement contouring what the media would have you believe all we go onto the day typically is helping people. The other day I had a media guy tag along and within the first couple minutes, I got a call. There was a 17 year old who ran into a car on a motorcycle. I went, and 10 minutes after picking up the reporter, I was doing CPR on the kid in the middle of the street. Then I had to go tell the mom and dad that their son was just involved in an accident. When the mom came out, it was a girl I dated in high school 20-30 something years ago. I went to the hospital with her, and I hugged her, and I was there with her. And then we went to another call, and there were people arguing. We had to come and deal with that. Two more calls where mental health was an issue. When I finished the night the reporter was like “All you guys did today was help people. Not one call did anyone get arrested, none of that. It was all just to help people.” That is how I discovered my passion for helping people.”
Student: “Has your job ever morally challenged you?”
Mr. Lamb: “Yes, yes it has. There used to be a law that said you shall tow a car if they were driving on a suspended license. How do you tow a car where a mom has two kids in car seats and leave them on the side of the road? The law says you have to do it. What would you do? In those cases, I didn’t. I felt what was right was more important than what the law was telling me to do. Of course there are laws that you have to hold to, but on those laws I felt like I could justify morally that I was doing the right thing and send that mom home with her two kids and let her fix that problem later. So you do run into those situations.”
Student: “What would you say is the hardest part of your job?”
Mr. Lamb: “ The hardest part of this job is personal issues. A company with 600 employees, personal issues are tough. This job has gotten a lot tougher due to religion and politics and all those things, and it puts me in a predicament to take a stand on things. I know very well that people like it and don’t like it. So I hold the constitution as a guide. Those are what I hold to, but personally right now the hardest part is how polarized this country has become.”
Student: “What is your favorite thing about this community?”
Mr. Lamb: “I love this community. I love working with the youth in this community. That is the youth redirection program. I love to come to the schools. I love to go to read the kids, but the best part of this community is we just have really good people. I don’t feel like we have super rich people in this community. We just kinda like, we are all just trying to get through life, and we are working together at it, and I love it. I love that about this community.”
Student: “What do you think us as students can do to make an impact on our community?”
Mr. Lamb: “ I'll tell you what. This generation wants to do good. You want to see society better and all of that. I'm going to go back to what I said before: you have to be more open to all of it and understand all of it to be able to do that because you will make an impact in life. We're going to bring this society, and it's going to get in line because you guys are passionate about living and great communities and all that. I would say just be involved, which you guys all are. Find ways to be involved in your community whether it's running for office or becoming an EMT, a doctor, anything. Professions where you can help people and just be involved. That's all it takes, to be active, to have your voice heard. We are receiving more and more push with you guys being active and voting. Those are the things that matter. That's how you make changes in your community. That's what our system is set up for.
Surprise Squad Award
By Brianna Clemens & Caleb Richardson
Mrs. Robnett was this month's winner of FUSD’s Surprise Squad award! We sat down with her to ask her a few questions about it.
She is still relatively new to the ESS (Exceptional Student Services) program, only joining it last year. When asked if she follows a set of principles, she said that building relationships and joking around with her students is a great one to follow. She said she was very surprised to receive the award after being caught off guard. “I was in the middle of ordering lunch, and I was on the phone with the restaurant… then they made a bunch of noise and walked in and I didn’t know what to do so I hung up on the restaurant.”
Her funny and sarcastic personality, along with her great relationships with her students, all lead to her winning this award. Congratulations to Mrs. Robnett, and we can't wait to see who the next winner of the Surprise Squad award is!
