Employee of the Month: Debbie Melton
By Autumn Meadows and Stella Bock
This Month’s Employee of the Month is Mrs. Melton, the Administrative Assistant at Poston Butte, though she is sadly retiring.
Mrs. Melton is the Administrative Assistant. She has been at Poston Butte for 5 years and is now retiring. Mrs. Melton started the Junior ROTC program at our school, and she is one of the many pieces that built this home we call Poston Butte. Mrs. Melton has two kids, one boy, and one girl. She has 11 grandchildren ages 6 - 20 years old, and she has a wonderful and happy family.
In Mrs. Melton’s free time she likes to crochet and travel. One day she said she would like to visit Scotland and Ireland. Even though she plans to travel, Mrs.Melton will always have a home here at Poston Butte High School.
Mrs. Melton wishes she could stay at Poston Butte; she said it will be hard to leave. In Mrs. Melton’s five years here, she has made an impact on everyone around her. She is welcoming and open-minded, and we will all truly miss her. Mrs. Melton’s favorite quote is, “If you are not 10 minutes early, you are already late.” She said this teaches you to plan. Being who she is, Mrs. Melton will be missed dearly by both the student body and the staff. We wish her the best in the years to come, and we hope she enjoys her retirement. Mrs. Melton will forever be a Bronco.
FBLA Awards
By: Brianna Clemens and Stella Bock
Along with the many clubs offered at PBHS, the FBLA(Future Business Leaders of America) club is out there winning many awards! We sat down with Mrs. Piercy, who runs the club, and club member Payton Stewart to discuss what the organization is all about, and you may even consider joining it!
Can you explain more about this program? FBLA is an organization where we do a lot of community service and a lot of volunteering. Our goal for FBLA is competitions. We have Regionals in February and it's our practice, then we go to State in April. If the kids place in the top four, then we go to Nationals which takes place at the end of June in Chicago.
What got you interested in this program? I got interested in this program about five years ago teaching over at San Tan. I noticed the kids were having a lot of fun doing the FBLA activities. My background is in business, so I talked to the business teacher and said, “Would you like another person helping out?” He agreed. I am a very organized person, and he was not, so he enjoyed how I helped the kids with that. Once I got involved in FBLA, I also got involved in CTE which led to me teaching computer programming classes.
How do you think this program benefits students? It's a great program for kids who are shy. It gets them out of their comfort zone because they have to do presentations and create their own work, and I really like the leadership skills the students get from it.
Can you tell us more about yourself? I've been at Poston Butte for three years, but I've been in the district for a total of eight years. I started off as a math teacher, then moved to computer programming and graphic design. This is about my 13th year of teaching. I have a background in business and information systems, and my Master's in teaching math, education, and graphic design.
What led your students to win these awards? I think it's their drive and want to accomplish something. They want to win something, and one of the nicest rewards is to go to Nationals. The trip is covered, so the kids don't have to pay for anything.
Payton Stewart was interviewed by Stella Bock and here is what she had to say about the FBLA club:
Can you describe what you had to do to win this award? I won second place for publication design. I had to look at a prompt, create a presentation, and then present in front of judges. It was a little bit scary to be judged, but I was glad it was online rather than in person.
In two weeks after spring break, she will go to Tucson for in-state, and if she wins then she gets to go to Chicago for Nationals.
What interested you in this club? My friend who I always looked up to was in FBLA, so I joined. Now I love it a lot.
How do you think this club is beneficial? FBLA teaches skills like time management, public speaking, graphic arts, and coding. FBLA also covers a lot of areas like going to the competitions and surrounding yourself with people you can trust.
Did you practice in this category before you joined? A little bit, not as much as I should have. Judges nit pick. In thinking about FBLA, you should always be prepared.
What Are Your other interests? I enjoy listening to music, podcasting, (She has a podcast- Supernaturally Curious. Check her out!), working out, lifting weights, and gaming.
All of the winners in the Regional Competition were:
Business Ethics- The team, Riley Biter & Brooklyn Milstead took 2nd place

On March 1, 2022, Poston Butte had its very first Mr. Poston Butte since the year 2020. The final top 3 contestants of the fashion show, Drew Dalmacio, Genaro Garcia, and Jayden Olague had such amazing talent and had a lot to offer.
"The show must go on '' those in the theater may say, and it did. This year's "Mr. Poston Butte'' was well advertised just by looking at the packed gym that awaited and anticipated a variety show from the chosen candidates. With fine apparel, all contestants were escorted by either their significant other or someone who was desperate to be a part of the festivities. The candidates’ cat-walk performance was followed by a talent show that received applause from the audience. Out of the nine performances, three stood out. The three finalists stole the show with their musical talents; Drew Dalmacio singing “Your Welcome” from Moana, Genaro Garcia dancing to “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson, and Jaden Olague's rendition of Josh Turner’s “Your Man”.
Outstanding job to the Mr. Poston Butte contestants that participated in the show this year. We can’t wait to see what they have to offer next year!

Spirit Week Recap
By Aaliyah Orrick
Spirit week was a fun and fantastic week for everyone. It was super exciting with many participating in the themes each day.
Monday was beach day where people dressed like they were in Hawaii having the time of their lives. Many females dressed up with bikini tops over their shirts and beach hats and snorkels for accessories, while the guys dressed up in swim trunks.
Tuesday was Frat vs. Sorority day, where we had the option to dress like a sorority or frat person. There were more Frats than Sorority, as the majority of females went along with the males and dressed up in Frat material. One way or another, everyone looked good. One and all congrats to Frat boys/girls for having the most dressed-up people.
Wednesday was anything but a backpack day. So many individuals loved this day bringing shopping carts, baskets, grills, electric cars, baby strollers, inflatable pool ducks, and the list goes on! This day was one of the most hilarious days to partake in, and it was a joy to see everyone having so much fun with it.
Thursday was the 70’s vs the ’80s. Disco, bell bottoms, headbands, the variety of accessories and outfits were amazing to witness. Amazing job to the ’70s for dressing up the most.
And finally, Friday was White-out to represent the Spring Neon Explosion Dance. There was an assembly at the end of the day, and they announced the winner of Mr. Poston Butte from Tuesday. Then the same night was the Spring Neon Dance. A fun night of dancing and being covered in colored corn starch. Our deepest condolences to those who inhaled the color! We’re so happy that we all got to participate in this fun week!
